Discovery HD was one of the first high-definition television channels in Germany. It broadcast on the Sky Germany - Pay TV platform. Discovery HD was approved as a private broadcaster based in Munich by the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM) on October 13, 2005. At the meeting of the responsible media council, broadcasting permission was granted for a period of eight years. On November 30, 2012, the station was discontinued and replaced by a simulcast program from the Discovery Channel .
General information
Discovery HD was conceived as a 24-hour German-language program, which broadcast Discovery productions in high-resolution image quality and digital sound. The channel's program organizer was Discovery Communications Deutschland GmbH, which, among other things, also holds the broadcasting licenses for other pay-TV channels.
As part of the introduction of high-definition digital television at the end of 2005 by Premiere Fernsehen GmbH & Co.KG, Munich , Discovery HD was distributed in Germany.

The encrypted pay-TV channel broadcast a documentary-oriented program around the clock every day.

The program of the high-definition channel Discovery HD consisted of many individual genres. The thematic allocation of the individual programs according to a basic program scheme was not possible with this channel. In terms of content, the program dealt with various documentations from a wide variety of areas. Overall, the station had broadcast material in the areas of nature, animals, travel and adventure, science and technology, history, contemporary history, lifestyle and reports. The sender claim was: Discovery HD - More Reality.
reception
The program was broadcast digitally via satellite and in cable networks, each of which was an encrypted program signal that could only be received via the above-mentioned distribution channels as part of a subscription to the pay-TV provider Sky Deutschland. In order to be able to receive the program, however, a decoder was required to decode the received signal. Accordingly, Discovery HD was received via the cable network (Kabel Deutschland) with the following receiver settings:
