BBC Canada is an English language television broadcaster with headquarters in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . The station broadcasts current and self-produced series, shows and films. BBC Canada is a joint venture between Shaw Media and BBC Worldwide.

history

The company Alliance Atlantis (AAC) founded BBC Canada after receiving the broadcasting license for BBC Canada by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in November 2000. The station went on 7 September 2001, as a joint venture with worldwide BBC on Broadcast.

On January 18, 2008, Canwest and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners , also known as CW Media, entered into a joint venture to buy Alliance Atlantis .

On October 27, 2010, Shaw Communications took over the shares of Canwest and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and operates the station in a joint venture with BBC Worldwide .

Since BBC Canada was licensed as a Canadian broadcaster, through Shaw Media's majority stake, the relevant regulatory authority (CRTC) has stipulated that the broadcaster must meet a minimum broadcast quota in addition to programs from the BBC portfolio, including Canadian series, shows.
