2004-2009

In the show, a mostly scrap-ripe car is transformed into a "new", tuned car within seven days . The cars are stolen from their owner by the designer Chip Foose and his employees. An acquaintance or a family member of the “stolen” person, the “insider”, knows about this and later also acts as an advisor. The car is taken to a workshop and completely dismantled there. The body will be revised and any technical defects on the vehicle will be eliminated. The interior is redesigned and the vehicle is then repainted. Most of the time, the engine performance is also improved. Finally, the converted vehicle is returned to its owner. In most cases, this happens under staged circumstances.

Before the final conversion, the vehicle is redesigned by Chip Foose in collaboration with the owner's friend or family member. Foose develops the necessary conversion measures, from the color scheme to the new or revised engine.

During the renovation phase, the two presenters Adrienne Janic and Chris Jacobs played a trick on the owner of the car for the entire episode. They claim, for example, that the car was stolen, that it was prohibited from parking and that it was then towed away. In addition, they then appear as police officers or insurance agents who are currently processing the case. In one episode, the vehicle was allegedly stolen and used as an escape vehicle by thieves. In another episode, the owner was shown how "his" car ended up in a shredder. This could only work if the moderation team had found an almost identical vehicle model that was supposed to be shredded anyway.

The return takes place in the workshop. The victim learns what has been changed in his car. Then the A-Team presents itself and the “insiders” are announced. At the end everyone in front of their car and everyone involved says the following sentence: “ My name is ... and I've just been overhauled. ”(German:“ My name is… and I was overhauled. ”) This sentence was not dubbed in German.

Since 2012

The new edition has been changed a little compared to the first edition. Jessi Combs replaces Adrienne Janic, who in turn will be back as co-moderator from 2014. Jessi Combs was replaced by Arianny Celeste in 2013. Chris Jacobs was there from the start. Other changes were that candidates were usually chosen who have achieved or are doing something special in their lives, for example socially committed people. They are not being played a joke, but are told that their vehicle is on loan to a museum or that it is being repaired in a workshop. When it is returned, for example, the vehicle is exhibited in a museum and the actual owner then stands in front of it and does not even notice that this is his vehicle. Only after the moderators, Chip Foose and his team appear in person, is the riddle finally resolved. The "Overhauled-Spruch" is dubbed there.

Since 2014 little pranks have been played again at the beginning. For example, it is alleged that the vehicle is being used by a smuggler for smuggling or that it is being smeared by a trailer of an opposing ice hockey team . After a few minutes the riddle is resolved and the victim knows from the start that his car is being tuned.
