Angela Schuster (born May 1, 1967 in Hanau ) is a former German rower who took part in the world rowing championships in the 1980s in the lightweight single and in the 1990s in the open weight class . Her greatest successes are the vice world championship in easy singles in 1988 and vice world championship in doubles four in 1993.

Schuster was part of the German junior national team in 1985, in a double scull with Heike Grunert , Katrin Petersmann and Ingeburg Althoff , she took fifth place at the junior world championships . In 1986 she won the German championships in double sculls together with Astrid Koch , but was not considered for the national team.

In 1987 Schuster became German champion in the lightweight single and also represented Germany in this boat class at the World Championships in Copenhagen . There she missed the finals, but won the B-final and finished seventh overall. Also in 1988 she was able to win at the German championships in the easy single, at the world championships in Milan she won the silver medal.

With her third championship victory in 1989 she qualified again for the World Championships, where she reached fifth place. In addition, she was the first rower to win the lightweight single three times in a row. Marie-Louise Dräger only succeeded in doing this again in 2008 .

In 1990 Schuster switched to the open weight class and made the leap into the national team. Together with Claudia Haßmann she became German champion in double sculls and took part in this boat class in the world championships in Tasmania , where the team took fourth place.

Schuster only played in the Rowing World Cup in 1991 and 1992 and thus also missed the Olympic Games in Barcelona , since after the reunification the East German rowers were also competing for places. In 1993, however, she was German champion in four-four and nominated again for the first time for world championships. Together with Daniela Molle and the reigning Olympic champions in this boat class, Kerstin Müller and Kristina Mundt , she was defeated in the final of the World Championships in Racice against the strong Chinese women , who thus ended the nine-year winning streak of the German Rowing Association in the women's quadruple. Also, the material may played a role here: While the Chinese women like all other nations with the new, differently shaped Big blades drove the Germans used conventional Macon - Skulls .

At the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis , Schuster rowed in double sculls with Jana Thieme and won the third world championship medal of her career with bronze. In 1995 in Tampere she started with Kristina Mundt in double sculls and finished fourth. At the Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta , Schuster was the substitute rower for the German team.

Angela Schuster, who started for the Hanau rowing company in 1879 , then ended her career. Although she studied sports science after graduating from high school , Schuster trained as a goldsmith until 1999 and designed the "Golden Sports Pyramid" for the German Sports Aid Foundation . Schuster is now working in the personnel department of a large company.
