Ruth Kaps

Ruth Kaps (born February 20, 1968 in Gießen ) is a former German rower who took part in the 1996 lightweight double sculls at the Olympic Games in Atlanta .

In 1989 Kaps won medals at the German Championships for the first time when she was runner-up in the double fours and took third place in the single. A year later, Kaps, who rowed for the Giessen rowing club Hassia in 1906 , became German champion in the lightweight double scull with Brigitte Helmers . In the same year she was nominated for the match of the senior , the unofficial U23 world championships, which she won in singles.

In 1991 Kaps won the German championships in the lightweight one in front of last year's winner Ingrid Hätscher , who was also nominated for the world championships. In 1994 Kaps won a bronze medal in the lightweight foursome without a helmsman and was used in the Rotsee Regatta in Lucerne.

In 1995 and 1996 Kaps rowed together with Michelle Darvill from Hanover in an easy double scull. The team won the German championships in both years and was nominated for the national team. At the World Championships in Tampere in 1995 the duo won bronze, at the Olympic Games in Atlanta they took eighth place. Then Kaps was voted "Sportswoman of the Year" in her hometown of Giessen.
