In 1973 Gliński on Boleslaw Prus High School put in Warsaw the matriculation examination from. He studied economics and sociology at the University of Warsaw and graduated in 1978 with a master's degree . This was followed by doctoral studies at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). In 1984 he defended his dissertation : “Economic Modalities of Lifestyles. Urban families in Poland in the 1970s ”. He completed his habilitation at the Institute for Philosophy and Sociology of the PAN with the thesis “Polish Greens. Social Movement in Times of Change ”. In 2008 he was appointed professor. In his work he specialized in research on social movements , civil society and social aspects of environmental protection.

In 1986 Piotr Gliński was co-organizer of the dissident Polish Society for Sociology (Polskie Towarzystwo Socjologiczne), which became part of the democracy movement. In the early 1990s he joined the Democratic Union (UD), which had emerged from the liberal wing of Solidarność . Gliński was also a founding member of an association that campaigned for the establishment of a national park in Masuria . He was also a member of the Collegium Invisibile , an organization founded in 1995 which, in view of mass universities and the increasing number of academics, calls for the promotion of highly talented people and a scientific elite.

In 1997 he ran in the 1997 parliamentary elections for the Liberal Freedom Union (UW), in which he was a party member from 1998 to 2000. In 2003 he took part in the founding of the Partia Zieloni , but did not join it.

In 2010 he was appointed to the National Council for Development (Narodowa Rada Rozwoju) by President Lech Kaczyński . In 2012 the opposition party led by Jarosław Kaczyński presented PiS Gliński as its candidate for the post of prime minister. However, a vote of no confidence introduced by the PiS against Prime Minister Donald Tusk failed .

From 2013 to 2014 Gliński was a member of the commission set up by the PiS that dealt with the plane crash near Smolensk . The then non-party Gliński was appointed to the PiS program council in 2014. In 2014, the PiS made another attempt to overthrow the Tusk cabinet by means of a vote of no confidence and failed again. Again Gliński was her candidate for the office of head of government. In the 2015 parliamentary elections , he ran for the Sejm from the PiS electoral list in the Łódź constituency . With 41,697 votes, he was elected member of the 8th electoral term in the Sejm. On November 16, 2015, he was appointed Minister of Culture and National Heritage in the cabinet of Beata Szydło .

Political positions

Gliński described himself as a representative of the "conservative center". He protested against the label "national conservative" of his party PiS; their economic and social program was based on Catholic social teaching . He justified his criticism of the gender ideology with the view that he did not see the “cultural conditionality of social roles” as bad and discriminatory. According to him, western societies are characterized by “egoism and egocentrism”. As a Christian, he has an affirmative attitude towards life, which is why he speaks out against abortion , euthanasia and pedophilia .

Awards

In 2011, Piotr Gliński received the Order of Polonia Restituta (Officer) from the then incumbent President Bronisław Komorowski .
