The Unia Demokratyczna (German "Democratic Union"; UD) was a liberal party in Poland .

The Unia Demokratyczna was founded in 1990 by members of Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki , who also held the party chairmanship from 1991 to 1994. It represented a social liberal , to the strengthening of civil rights Founded policy in conjunction with a social market economy . In addition, it was based on Christian principles. Until 1993, the UD was involved in several coalition governments.

In the first free elections to the Sejm in 1991, it was the strongest parliamentary group with 12.32% of the vote.

In 1994 the Unia Demokratieyczna (UD) went on together with the Liberal Democratic Congress (KLD) in the newly founded Unia Wolności (UW).

Well-known political figures within the UD were u. a. Bronisław Geremek , Jacek Kuroń , Adam Michnik and Hanna Suchocka .

  • 1991 : 12.32% (62 seats)
  • 1993 : 10.59% (74 seats)
