Prime Minister Beata Szydło, 2016

As a result of the parliamentary elections in October 2015, the Szydło Cabinet formed the government of the Republic of Poland from November 16, 2015 to December 11, 2017 under the leadership of Beata Szydło .

Ruling parties

The right-wing parties Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , Solidarna Polska and Polska Razem have stood together, with all candidacies taking place on the PiS electoral list. The respective party leaders Jarosław Kaczyński , Zbigniew Ziobro and Jarosław Gowin made this agreement to appear together in the parliamentary elections in the summer of 2014. The PiS Association achieved an absolute majority in the Sejm (lower house) and in the Senate (upper house), so there was no coalition another campaigning party necessary. In November 2017, Gowin founded the Porozumienie party , which was expanded to include other conservative-liberal circles and has since replaced the previous Polska Razem party within the government camp.

Media reactions

Presentation to the government

The Polish media discussed the appointment of Antoni Macierewicz as defense minister, on the one hand because he is a controversial figure, on the other hand because Beata Szydło had previously announced several times that he would put the moderate Jarosław Gowin on this post.

The Tagesspiegel criticized the new defense minister as an "extremely controversial" politician. The newspaper emphasized that Antoni Macierewicz had a “brilliant dissident career” during the communist era , but from 1992 onwards it sparked several controversies. Macierewicz had accused Lech Wałęsa of working with the Stasi, which brought the entire government down. Furthermore, he is said to have described the falsified Protocols of the Elders of Zion on Radio Maryja in 2002 as interesting and "partly in accordance with the truth". The spokesman for the incumbent minister called these allegations a lie and requested apologies.

The left-liberal Gazeta Wyborcza took the former CEO of Bank Zachodni WBK and incumbent development minister Mateusz Morawiecki positively and described him with the words "from revolutionary to millionaire and vice-premier". The mayor of Wrocław Rafał Dutkiewicz described Morawiecki as an expert. After the system change, he made a name for himself with the publication of employees of the Służba Bezpieczeństwa .

Die Welt am Sonntag reported that the government under Szydło was converting the country into an authoritarian state in the first few months of its term in office.
