Porozumienie Centrum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Center Alliance ( pl. Porozumienie Centrum , PC ) was a Polish party with a Christian Democratic orientation. It emerged in 1990 from the Solidarność movement under the leadership of Jarosław Kaczyński . Its program was directed primarily against socialism and included a decidedly anti-communism . In the first free elections in 1991, the party achieved 8.7% of the vote and 44 seats. In 1993, however, it failed with just 4.4% of the newly introduced five percent hurdle and missed re-entry into the Sejm . For the 1997 parliamentary elections, the PC joined together with around 40 other groups to form the Solidarność election campaign (AWS). When the electoral alliance broke up during the legislative period, the twin brothers Jarosław and Lech Kaczyński founded the Law and Justice party ( Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , PiS) in 2001 .
