The Aracá Uakari ( Cacajao melanocephalus ayresi ) is a subspecies of the genus Uakaris within the primate family of the Sakia monkeys (Pitheciidae). It was founded in 2008 as one of the nominate the Golden-Backed Uakari Cacajao melanocephalus melanocephalus separate subspecies described . Originally it was even assumed that it was a separate species. However, this thesis was rejected by other authors. Its German name is reminiscent of the place where the type specimen was found , the Rio Aracá.

Aracá uakaris are similar to the black-faced uakaris, but they have a darker coat and are slightly smaller. The length of the head body is 36 to 40 centimeters, the tail is, as with all Uakaris, significantly shortened and measures 16 to 18 centimeters. The weight is 2 to 2.5 kilograms. Their fur is predominantly black in color, with a slight red cast on the back. The hair on the shoulder region is elongated and forms a clearly visible coat. The head is hairless with the exception of the upper side, it is colored black. The ears protrude from the fur.

Aracá-Uakaris inhabit a small area in the far north of Brazil near the border with Venezuela . Its distribution area is north of the Rio Negro , its exact dimensions are not yet known.

Very little is known about the way of life of this subspecies. Like black-faced uakaris, they may be diurnal tree dwellers that live in larger groups and feed on hard-shelled fruits and seeds.

The IUCN lists the Aracá-Uakari as "endangered" ( vulnerable ) due to its small distribution area, in which there are no protected areas and where it is also hunted .
