Zootaxa is an international specialist magazine for zoological taxonomy . It has been produced in English almost daily since May 2001, both online and in print , and published by Magnolia Press in Auckland , New Zealand . The founder and editor-in-chief is Zhi-Qiang Zhang .

By the end of 2012, 3637 issues with 9307 taxonomic papers had been published in which 26373 new taxa were described. The articles are published by the editorial team according to a peer review process. A large proportion of the work appears as an open access publication. In addition to the regular magazine editions, monographs and books are increasingly being published.

Zootaxa is BIOSIS in the Zoological Record and by the Institute for Scientific Information in Science Citation Index Expanded and Current Contents / Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences indexed . The impact factor was 0.972 in 2016.

Sister publications

The same publisher also publishes the online and open access magazines Phytotaxa (publishes new discoveries in the field of botany ) and Megataxa , which, according to its own statements, deals with "the big questions of taxonomy" and publishes detailed monographs.
