The Frankendamm is a street in the city 's Old Town in Stralsund . The street connects Wasserstraße and Frankenwall with Karl-Marx-Straße , Werftstraße and Greifswalder Chaussee . The Klosterstraße , the streets Wulflamufer and Frankenhof, the Hafenstraße , Grünstraße, Quergasse, Otto-Voge-Straße, Fährhofstraße, Gartenstraße and the Straße Hühnerberg branch off from Frankendamm. The Frankendamm is on the outskirts of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

The name of the street goes back to the Vranco council family . The existence of a dammno Vranco or Vrankendamm is documented as early as 1317 . Until a comprehensive reform of the street names in Stralsund in 1869, the street was officially called Am Landwege , between the waterway and the Frankenwall to the slaughterhouse the street was called Frankenkronwerk . From November 7, 1953 on, the street to Josef Stalin was called Stalinstrasse ; on November 16, 1961, it was renamed Frankendamm back along its entire length.

17 of the buildings are under monument protection (see also the list of monuments in Stralsund ): the houses Frankendamm 1 / Frankenwall 27, Frankendamm 3 and Frankendamm 5 , Frankendamm 10/12/14/16/18/20, Frankendamm 21, Frankendamm 22, Frankendamm 25, Frankendamm 29, Frankendamm 37, Frankendamm 40, Frankendamm 41, Frankendamm 49, Frankendamm 53, Frankendamm 58, Frankendamm 60, Frankendamm 67, Frankendamm 70, as well as the Alte Frankenfriedhof, the wall of the Catholic cemetery and the Neue Frankenfriedhof.

The Primus Immobilien Arena and the two Franconian cemeteries are located on Frankendamm . Only a few buildings remain of the Frankenkaserne barracks, which was built in 1877 , including a part of the former main building that has been used as a hotel since 1955.

The Stralsund tram ran across Frankendamm until it was closed ; a short section of tracks at Otto-Voge-Straße reminds of this.
