Events

The Primus Immobilien Arena is a football stadium in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund on Frankendamm . It was built in autumn 1938 as Frankendammsportplatz , renamed the Stadium of Friendship in 1953 and has been named after Berlin's PRIMUS Immobilien AG since 2015 . The stadium is the venue for TSV 1860 Stralsund .

history

On Frankendamm in Stralsund's Frankenvorstadt there was a meadow between the Frankenteich and the slaughterhouse from around the beginning of the 20th century. In the area called Meiers Wiese , cows were kept and soccer was played.

After the First World War , a sports field was created on the meadow. There was a playing field and a running track here. The Reichsmarine , which was stationed in the Frankenkaserne on Frankendamm, used the sports field from 1920 to train recruits . The fact that no target practice was carried out was due to the successful protests of the Stralsund citizens, who feared damage to the cows grazed there.

The playing area of the sports field, which was always under water when it rained because there were no drainage measures, was only 80 × 50 meters and, like the track, did not meet international standards. The sporting activity of German youth became a declared national goal, especially after the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin ; the military leadership joined in. The naval site administration therefore decided to redesign the sports field in accordance with the regulations of the National Socialist Reichsbund for physical exercises . In the spring of 1938 work began on a stadium and the most modern sports field in Stralsund was created. The playing field was enlarged to an area of 105 × 70 meters, the running track now consisted of gravel , slag and a top layer of red earth , and measured 6.25 meters in width. A 100-meter running track, a pole vault facility , a triple jump facility as well as facilities for the shot put and javelin throws rounded off the offer in addition to three long jump facilities . A low wall with a lattice fence was built on Frankendamm so that everyone could watch the sport.

On October 8, 1938, the " Stralsundische Zeitung " reported on the opening: "A real feast for the eyes for every friend of true German youth and physical exercise outdoors - and which Stralsundian would not be - is the newly completed marine sports ground across from the Falkland block." In the article, however, something relevant was already mentioned: The sports facility was reserved for the navy for use. Only after the Second World War was the Frankendamm sports area put into civil use.

On November 15, 1953, the stadium on what was then Josef-W.-Stalin-Strasse was named the Stadium of Friendship. From then on it was the venue for the football team of what would later become the ASG Vorwärts Stralsund . In addition, numerous sporting events of the Stralsund schools were held here.

In the 1990s, the stadium received a new scoreboard and new seats in accordance with international guidelines. Floodlight masts had already been installed in the 1980s.

In 2015 the Stadium of Friendship was renamed Primus Immobilien Arena. The name was sold to the Berlin sponsors in order to better position the senior and junior area.
