As a member of an army sports community, Kaschke was also a member of the GDR army. Since his service obligation ended in October 1977, he made use of the opportunity to make a team change and joined FC Hansa Rostock, who played together with Stralsund in the GDR league after his relegation last season , but as clear favorite for promotion. The Rostockers lived up to their role as favorites and rose again to the top league in the summer of 1978 . Kaschke was involved with 16 point games and five goals. In the league season 1978/79 he was a regular as a right winger from the start, completed 24 of the 26 league point games and scored four goals.
