Werner Schorrig

Werner Schorrig (born June 14, 1950 in Wolferode ) is a former German football player ( GDR ). For the BSG Wismut Gera he played in the upper league , the top division of the GDR football association .

Athletic career

Schorrig grew up in Wolferode near Eisleben, where he was born, and there he also began to play organized football with the children's team of the Stahl Wolferode company sports association . At the age of 15 he moved to the youth department of Stahl Eisleben , where he last played in the third-rate Halle district league with the team that was renamed BSG Mansfeldkombinat . In 1970 Schorrig began a three-year military service and during this time he played with the football team of the Vorwärts Stralsund army sports community in the second-rate GDR league . After completing his time in the army, Schorrig joined BSG Aufbau Schwedt in the summer of 1973 . There he also played with the exception of the 1975/76 season, when Schwedt was relegated to the district league, in the GDR league.

For the 1977/78 season, Schorrig moved to the league promoted BSG Wismut Gera, who wanted to strengthen himself with a new striker. Schorrig played in the league from the start and established himself as the regular left winger of the Geraer during the season. With only one goal in his 19 league appearances, his success was moderate, and his team did not manage to stay in the league. With only one win and 21 defeats, Wismut Gera was relegated back to the GDR league after only one year of first class. Schorrig remained three more seasons with BSG Wismut, in the 1979/80 season he was the top scorer of his team with 14 goals.

At the age of 31, Schorrig left Wismut Gera at the end of the 1980/81 season and played another year in the GDR league with newly promoted BSG Stahl Silbitz in 1981/82 . In 1984 he ended his career as a competitive athlete after another two years with Silbitz in the district league. He then worked as a football coach for lower-class teams such as Wismut Gera II, SV Carl Zeiss Gera and FC Thuringia Weida . At the ninth-class district division TSV Gera-Westvororte, Schorrig was still the player-coach in 2010 at the age of 50.
