Gerd Schellhase
Gerd Schellhase (born February 13, 1950 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German football class. He played there for Vorwärts Stralsund and Motor Suhl .
The company sports club Turbine Magdeburg was at the beginning of Gerd Schellhase's football career. From 1969 Schellhase played with the men's team in the third-class district league Magdeburg . When the 2nd team of 1. FC Magdeburg rose to the second-rate GDR league in 1969, the club took the 19-year-old striker to strengthen their reserve. Schellhase played 18 of the 30 games played by the second team, in which he was almost without exception used as a left winger. At the end of the season, the team was relegated from the GDR league and Schellhase found himself in the district league, because he was not used in the first team.
In connection with the completion of his military service, Schellhase switched to the army sports community and the league promoted Vorwärts Stralsund in the fall of 1971. There he came on October 30, 1971 in the league game at Hansa Rostock (1: 5 defeat) for his first league use. From the 7th match day on, the 1.73 m tall Bell Hare had a regular place as a left winger and at the end of the season had played 20 games in the league. However, he also had to accept the second decline of his career, because Vorwärts Stralsund also descended again after a year. Nevertheless, Schellhase stayed in Stralsund for another season, but then moved to East German league team Motor Suhl in 1973 . Apart from a short interlude between 1979 and 1980, when he worked as a player-coach for the district division Lok Schleusingen, Schellhase stayed with the Suhlers until 1986. In the 1976/77 season he was the Suhl team's top scorer with ten goals.
In the 1983/84 season Motor Suhl was promoted to the league. Of the 22 point and eight promotion games, Schellhase played 29 encounters and contributed two goals. From the 3rd league game day on, Schellhase had established himself in his standard position left winger and came in 1984/85 to 16 appearances in the first division. However, the fate of relegation remained true to him. Suhl was also unable to keep the class and was also relegated after a year. Schellhase played one more season in the GDR league, after which he said goodbye to active football in the summer of 1986 at the age of 36.
