The handball club Rödertal eV ( HCR ) is a German women's handball club from Großröhrsdorf in Saxony . It was founded on March 1, 2009 and serves to maintain, promote and develop the sport of handball. The first women's team played in the Bundesliga in the 2017/18 season .

history

For the 2009/10 season, the first women's team of HC Rödertal formed a game community with TuS Weinböhla , which competed in the major league and rose to the newly created Central German League at the end of the season. After the handball bees failed in the relegation against DJK / MJC Trier in 2011 , they were promoted to the 3rd division a year later . In the 2012/13 season , HC Rödertal became champions of the East Season in the 3rd division and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2013/14 season . After the promotion, the handball club Rödertal GmbH was founded in June 2013 to carry out the Bundesliga games.

In the first second division season in the club's history, the Bundesliga team got better and more momentum after initial difficulties and after completing the first half of the season took a place in the lower midfield of the table. For a long time it looked as if they would have nothing to do with the relegation battle, but after a few unfortunate defeats in the final phase of the season, the fans of the bees had to tremble until the last day of the game before they drew 27:27 against the 1. FSV Mainz 05 could cheer the relegation. With Jessica Stiskall, Bettina Gabbert and Evelina Kalasauskaitė, three players left the club after the end of the season, which reacted to the departures by signing Vivien Jäger, Kristina Domann (both Frankfurt HC), Lisa-Marie Preis (SG Rosengarten-Buchholz) and Katarzyna Skoczyńska . Head coach Eglė Kalinauskaitė also gave up her post for personal reasons, the new head coach was Co Frank Lessau, who was initially assisted by Jan Resimius. However, the start of the 2014/15 season was difficult for the HCR and the team had to admit defeat in three of the first four games, which resulted in the resignation of Frank Lessau, who was promoted to head coach in the summer of 2014, directly after the lost home game against Neckarsulm on 11 October 2014 resulted. Co-trainer Jan Resimius then took over the post of head coach as interim trainer, while those responsible in the background explored the market for a long time and only presented a new head coach in January 2015 with Karsten Moos. At this point in time, after only 3 wins and 10 defeats from 13 games, the team was relegated to a direct relegation zone, but managed the first game under the new boss against HSG Bensheim-Auerbach, one of the top teams in the league, sensationally with 31:19 for made up their minds and then set off for a real high-altitude flight. In the end, the HCR took eighth place in the table as the second best team in the second half of the season.

Under Karsten Moos, the team continued to develop, in the 2015/16 season even played in part for promotion to League 1 and ended the season in fifth place in the table. Building on this, the club developed a concept for the further development of the Bundesliga team, which in the medium term aimed to promote the team to the 1st Bundesliga.

Rödertal took third place in the 2016/17 season. After the second-placed SG Handball Rosengarten waived his right to promotion, Rödertal initially decided to remain in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the bankruptcy of HC Leipzig, Rödertal moved into the Bundesliga.

After nine defeats in a row and the resulting last place in the table, coach Knöfler was on leave in January 2018. His successor was Maximilian Busch from the second division HL Buchholz 08-Rosengarten . At the end of the 2017/18 season, the HCR rose from the bottom of the table from the first division.
