In the 2013/14 season the first men's team played again in the 2nd Bundesliga, but the club withdrew its team from play during the season. Since the 2014/15 season, both the men's and women's teams have been competing in the fifth-rate SH league.
history
The handball community was founded in 1987 by the sports clubs TSV Tarp and TSV Wanderup. The first successes that the syndicate was able to achieve were the German runner-up titles for male youth A (1992) and female youth A (1994). In 1999, the HSG was awarded the DHB Association Youth Prize for successful youth work.
The men's team won the Northeast German championship in 1994 and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time. After the HSG managed to stay in the league twice, the team had to go to the regional league in 1997. Two years later, Tarp-Wanderup was again Northeast German champion and returned to the 2nd division. After five seasons, the HSG again relegated to the Regionalliga Nordost. In 2010 the team qualified for the newly created 3rd division ; The club ended the 2010/2011 season as North German champions and took part in the relegation games to the 2nd Bundesliga , but Tarp was defeated in the relegation game for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2012/13 season , the HSG won the championship in the northern relay and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga for the third time; the team also won the Schleswig-Holstein State Cup. After the management and shareholders of the HSG had already made the decision in December 2013 that no license would be applied for for the second division season 2014/15, HSG Tarp-Wanderup GmbH & Co.KG, responsible for the second division team, reported on 23 January 2014 Bankruptcy, whereby a stay in the second division was excluded regardless of the sporting performance. On January 31, 2014, the team had to be withdrawn from the game after unsuccessful negotiations with potential donors.
youth
The association attaches great importance to youth work. The male A-youth became national champions in 2009/10.
