The first women's team of the club rose in 1985 as champions of the District League South in the Oberliga Schleswig-Holstein (fourth highest division) and then established itself at the top of Schleswig-Holstein women's handball. After two runner-up championships and a national championship (1987), he was promoted to the third-class Regionalliga Nord in the 1989/90 season. Here the OSV initially occupied a midfield position before two league reforms led to his having to compete in the regional league of the Northeast German Handball Association from 1992/93. This was played in two seasons (north and south), with the first and second placed in both seasons determined a promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga after the regular season.

The Oldenburg women qualified three times in a row for the promotion games (1993 and 1995 as champions, 1994 as runner-up in the North Season). After Marner TV and Wandsbek 72 emerged as the winners of these games in 1993 and 1994 , OSV defeated the 2nd team of Frankfurt HC (20:21, 19:13) and ASC Spandau (15:12, 20 : 12) and secured promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. However, as the penultimate one, you had to descend directly from this. Before the subsequent regional league season, the club withdrew from the game.

In the 2013/14 season, the first women's team played in the Ostsee regional league (seventh highest division), the men competed in the southern regional league (sixth highest division). For the 2014/15 season, the OSV merged with TSV Grube and TSV Lensahn to form HSG Wagrien ; Between 2007 and 2014 he formed the HSG Oldenburg / Grömitz in the youth field with TSV Grömitz .
