↓ District Leagues

The Gauliga Südwest / Mainhessen was one of 16 football Gauligen that were introduced as the top division in the German Reich after the Nazi seizure of power in 1933. It existed until 1941 and was dissolved in the course of a reorganization.

history

The Gau classification 1933,
No. 13 = southwest

From 1933, twelve teams played the participants in the final of the German championship of the Gauliga Südwest. The number of participating teams was initially reduced to eleven and from the 1935/36 season to ten clubs. From 1939 the league was divided into the Saarpfalz and Mainhessen squadrons , in which initially seven teams were represented, from 1940 eight each. The two season winners played the final round participants in the two legs. In 1941 the Gauliga Südwest was dissolved and a new division made. The Gauliga Westmark emerged from the Saarpfalz squadron , while the Mainhessen squadron was incorporated into the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau with part of the Gauliga Hessen , which was also dissolved .

Gaumeister 1934–1941

In the eight seasons Kickers Offenbach and Wormatia Worms each won the championship three times, Phönix Ludwigshafen and Eintracht Frankfurt each won the title once. None of the championship teams of the Gauliga Südwest was able to intervene decisively in the subsequent final round of the German championship, all clubs failed in the group stage.
