The Reichsbundpokal 1938/39 was the fifth Reichsbundpokal competition. With the addition of Gaus Ostmark (Austria), there were now 17 participating teams, which is why there was an elimination match between Saxony and Berlin-Brandenburg before the round of 16 , which Saxony won. This year's Reichsbund Cup was sensationally won by the selection of Silesia , which had only ever won a game in the Reichsbund Cup before. On the way to the final, Silesia, whose basic structure consisted of players from the multiple Gaumeister Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz , defeated defending champion Nordmark in the round of 16 and the favored team Ostmarks in the quarter-finals, which, so to speak, reflected the Austrian national football team. In the final, Silesia then prevailed 2-1 against Gau Bayern . Last year's finalist Südwest was eliminated in the round of 16, against the selection team Niederrhein it was a clear 7-0 defeat. East Prussia surprisingly beat Lower Saxony 4-0 in the round of 16 , which was only the second victory for East Prussia in Reichsbund Cup games.
