Herbert Seltmann

Herbert Seltmann (born May 19, 1911 , † 1978 ) was a German football player. Before the Second World War he played with the Planitzer SC in the Gauliga Sachsen and took part in the final round of the German soccer championship in 1942 . In 1948 he became soccer champion of the east zone with SG Planitz .

Athletic career

Seltmann joined the PSC in 1924 and played first with the Planitz youth, later in the second team of the PSC. As early as the 1930/31 season, Herbert "Gummi" Seltmann was a 20-year-old midfielder in the squad of the first team of the West Saxon Gauligists. In 1933, Planitzer SC and Seltmann qualified for the newly created Gauliga Sachsen. In the first round of the Friedrich Meyer Cup in 1934, Seltmann was involved in the highest competitive success of the PSC when he scored 5 goals in the 28: 1 against TV Ebersbrunn . He was the third best goalscorer in this game, after Schubert (13) and Weigel (7). In the 1941/42 season the Planitz team were Gaumeister and moved into the finals of the German football championship with Seltmann in 1942. There the SC advanced to the quarter-finals and failed there at First Vienna FC 1894 with 2: 3. Herbert Seltmann was used in all three games. He was still part of the squad of players in the last season of the Planitzer SC when the SC 1944/45 was still playing in the Gauliga in the season that was canceled. After the Second World War, Seltmann was one of the players who revived football with the newly founded sports community (SG) Planitz. In 1948, the Planitz team became the West Saxon football champions and qualified for the 1948 Eastern Zone Football Championship . With the 37-year-old Seltmann they reached the final and were with a 1-0 victory over SG Freiimfelde east zone champions. Herbert Seltmann was used in the final as a central midfielder. After the 1948/49 season with SG Planitz, he ended his career as a football player.

After that, Seltmann was still a player-coach at the BSGen Wismut Wildenfels and Pneumatik Aue .
