Paul Winkler (born August 22, 1913 in Altenessen ; † November 25, 1994 ), also known as "Johnny", was a German soccer player .

Winkler started playing soccer at the Essen district association BV Altenessen 06 before moving to Schwarz-Weiß Essen . From 1934 to 1943 he played for the club in the Gauliga Niederrhein , one of 16 Gauligen , as the top division in the German Empire .

With the relegation in the 1942/43 season and the failure of a team, he moved to FC Schalke 04 in the Gauliga Westfalen , which he completed with the club as a champion . The following season - divided into three war-Gauklassen - was not brought to an end after three match days due to the war.

After the end of the Second World War , the British Zone Championship was held in North and West Germany ; FC Schalke 04 won the Westphalia district championship, group 1 ; a final for the Westphalia championship with the district champion Westphalia, group 2, SpVgg Erkenschwick , was prohibited by the British military government. From 1950 to 1953 he played for Borussia M. National team

On March 20, 1938 Winkler played his only international match for the senior national team , which won 2-1 over the Luxembourg national team in Wuppertal with two goals from Jupp Gauchel .

Others

His son Klaus † 1985 followed in his footsteps and was also a professional footballer from 1967 to 1979.
