The II. Division 1951/52 was the third season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the season 1951/52 there were in West Germany a two-track and in southwestern and southern Germany ever a single-track II. Division. The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.
The championship was secured by SV Sodingen and Borussia München-Gladbach . A final between the two group winners did not take place. The second-placed VfB Bottrop and TSG Vohwinkel 80 took part in a relegation round with the top division clubs STV Horst-Emscher and SpVgg Erkenschwick . Horst-Emscher and Erkenschwick managed to stay in the league. The Rheydter Spielverein and Hamborn 07 were relegated from the league . The Cologne clubs SC West and VfL 1899 formed a syndicate for the 1951/52 season, which played the second half of the season out of competition and was removed from the rating. The II. Division West played in the 1952/53 season with 16 teams in one group.
After the first day of the league season 1952/53, the league club VfR Frankenthal was excluded from the league because of proven bribery and replaced by Hassia Bingen .
