The II. Division 1953/54 was the fifth season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the 1953/54 season there was a single-track II Division in west , south-west and south Germany . The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.
west
The Duisburg SpV and Westfalia Herne rose to the Oberliga West. The Rheydter Spielverein and STV Horst-Emscher rose from the league . Marathon Remscheid and Arminia Bielefeld had to relegate to the state league and were replaced by VfL Benrath and TSV Marl-Hüls .
The SV Hamborn 07 and the Sportfreunde Hamborn merged to the Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 . The SSV Wuppertal and TSG Vohwinkel 80 fused to Wuppertaler SV . The II. Division West played in the 1954/55 season with 15 teams.

The Sportfreunde Saarbrücken and Eintracht Bad Kreuznach rose in the Oberliga Southwest. VfR Kirn and ASV Landau were relegated from the Oberliga Südwest . The SC Altenkessel and the 1. FC Idar had to relegate to the amateur league and were replaced by SV Ludweiler-Warndt and SV Weisenau .

Ascent round south
For the promotion round, the champions of the five southern German amateur leagues were eligible to participate. The Württemberg champions VfB Friedrichshafen waived, but 1. FC Eislingen moved up. Bayern played the amateur league with two seasons, so both season winners (Neustadt / Weiden) played. Behind the winner of the promotion round VfL Neustadt / Coburg , SpVgg Weiden and Borussia Fulda were tied on points. Weiden won the playoff in Würzburg 3-2.
