The II. Division 1954/55 was the sixth season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the 1954/55 season there was a single-track II Division in west , south-west and south Germany . The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.
west
The Wuppertaler SV and Hamborn 07 rose to the Oberliga West. VfL Bochum and Meidericher SV were relegated from the league . The Sportfreunde Katernberg had to relegate to the regional league and were replaced by VfB 03 Bielefeld , Eintracht Gelsenkirchen and Marathon Remscheid . The II. Division West played in the 1955/56 season with 16 teams.

Promotion round west
The national champions of the three West German associations should take part in the promotion round. After both the Mittelrheinmeister SV Bergisch Gladbach 09 and the runner-up Stolberger SV waived a deciding game between the runner-up from the Lower Rhine and Westphalia. VfB 03 Bielefeld prevailed 2-1 against Homberger SV in Dortmund .
southwest
The Spvgg Andernach and the FV Engers 07 rose to the Oberliga Südwest. Sportfreunde Saarbrücken and FV Speyer were relegated from the Oberliga Südwest . Viktoria Hühnerfeld and SC 07 Bad Neuenahr had to relegate to the amateur league and were replaced by SV St. Ingbert and VfL Trier .

The TSV 1860 Munich and Viktoria Aschaffenburg rose in the Oberliga Süd. KSV Hessen Kassel and FC Bayern Munich were relegated from the league . The SpVgg Weiden and the ASV Durlach had to dismount in the amateur league and were the VfB Helmbrechts and FC Penzberg replaced.

For the promotion round, the champions of the five southern German amateur leagues and the runner-up in the Bayern League were eligible to participate. The Hessen champions SpVgg 05 Bad Homburg waived, but Borussia Fulda moved up.
