Oberliga 1962/63

The II. Division 1962/63 was the fourteenth and final season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the 1962/63 season there was a single-track II Division in west , south-west and south Germany . The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.

The VfB Bottrop was the last champion of the II. Division West. The first eight teams qualified for the newly created Regionalliga West , while the rest had to return to the amateur camp. Of the eight clubs that missed the regional league qualification, only VfL Bochum was able to return permanently to professional football.

    Qualification for Regionalliga West

    The national champions of the three West German associations took part in the qualification for the Regionalliga West.

    The SV Phönix Ludwigshafen was the last champion of the 2nd Division Southwest. In addition to the Ludwigshafeners, Eintracht Trier qualified directly for the newly created Regionalliga Südwest . The third SV Weisenau prevailed in the direct qualification against the 15th of the Oberliga Südwest Eintracht Bad Kreuznach . The decision in favor of Weisenau was drawn by lot.

    The teams in places 3 to 8, the last of the Oberliga Südwest SV Niederlahnstein and the south-west German amateur champion ASV Landau identified further participants in the Regionalliga Südwest in two groups of four. Phönix Bellheim , SV Niederlahnstein, TSC Zweibrücken and SV 06 Völklingen qualified .

    The two group thirds ASV Landau and Eintracht Bad Kreuznach determined the last participant in the regional league in a decider. The game ended in a goalless draw after extra time . Landau qualified after the coin toss, so that Bad Kreuznach was effectively relegated from the first to the third division.

    The FSV Frankfurt was the last champion of the 2nd Division South. The teams in places 1 to 9 qualified for the newly created Regionalliga Süd . All other teams had to relegate to the respective amateur league.
