The VfB knowledge is a German sports club from knowledge in Rhineland-Palatinate with the departments soccer, youth soccer, old boys football, table tennis, athletics, taekwondo and Luta Livre. The club's first soccer team played continuously from 1957 to 1998 in the Rhineland Association League or higher. In 1994/1995 the association was a founding member of the Regionalliga West / Südwest .
history
On February 28, 1914, the club was founded by sports enthusiasts and the Wissenschafter Sportjugend. The name of the club was based on that of VfB Borussia Neunkirchen . VfB's first game took place in the summer of 1914. But a short time later the First World War broke out. As a result, some actors and board members had to leave the association to go to war. Nevertheless, several friendly matches were played during the war, including against Cologne-Mülheim and FC 1900 Wetzlar.
In the first regular season 1919/1920, VfB started in the B-Class. After the first season promotion could be achieved immediately and they played in the A-class for six years. When the Second World War came, VfB Wissen had to fall back on the players who were on leave from the front or who did not go to war. Game operations could be continued until autumn 1944, when it was completely discontinued. 75 VfB members died in the war.
After the club was initially forbidden to keep the game going, a chaplain managed to persuade the military authorities and the club was able to play the first friendly game in the summer of 1945. In 1947 all sports clubs were dissolved by the military government and had to be re-established. Due to many returnees from prisoners of war, the number of members increased nonetheless. After other sports departments were also set up in the club, it was decided in autumn 1950 to buy 4.2 hectares of land on the banks of the Sieg.
Due to the economic miracle and additional income, the stadium could be built on this site. Despite financial problems in the meantime, the homestead was inaugurated on August 7, 1955. The opening game between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt saw 10,000 spectators. There were similar scenes later in the DFB Cup game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (1982, 8,500 spectators) and in the 1992 friendly against FC Bayern Munich (7,920).
His football successes include three Rhineland championships (1962, 1988, 1991), two Rhineland Cup victories (1959, 1961), qualifying twice for the DFB Cup (1980, 1982) and participating in the German Amateur Championship (1972). For around 40 years, the first football team was always represented in at least the top division of the Rhineland Football Association. In the 1994/95 season, VfB Wissen was one of the founding members of the West / Southwest Football Regionalliga , at the time the third-highest German division . In the first year of membership in the league, he was relegated to the Oberliga Südwest . After relegating there after a year, you could stay in the Association League Rhineland for two years .
For the 1998/99 season, the relegation to the Landesliga Rheinland followed, which was replaced by the district league in the course of the league reform of the FV Rheinland in 2004. After relegation to the district league A of the Westerwald / Sieg football district in 2008, after three third places and two runners-up championships, it took until 2014 before the promotion to the district league succeeded. In the district league they finished sixth in 2014/15 and 2015/16 and fifth in the table in 2016/17. After being level on points with EGC Wirges in the 2017/18 season at the top of the table, the promotion game that had become necessary was lost 1: 2 in extra time. In the following 2018/19 season, he was promoted to the Rhineland League as champions of the District League East. In 2016 the association had around 700 members, around half of whom were children and young people.
