Jan Schlaudraff (born July 18, 1983 in Waldbröl ) is a former German football player and today's functionary . Most recently he was the sports director of Hannover 96 .

youth

Schlaudraff, the son of a priest and a teacher, grew up in Eichelhardt (Westerwald), moved with his parents to Wissen and then to Bingen am Rhein . In Wissen, he started playing soccer at the local JSG Wissen in April 1989 - until he was ten years old. He then played for Hassia Bingen at the new place of residence .

Borussia Monchengladbach

At the age of 19 he received a licensed player contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach for the 2002/03 season , for which he played four Bundesliga games in his first professional season. He made his debut on February 19, 2003 (19th matchday) - on 89th minute substitute for Lawrence Aidoo - in a 2-0 home win against VfL Wolfsburg . In 2003/04 he did not play a single game due to an injury. He also suffered from a rare viral infection that resulted in arthritis . After a long but successful treatment, he made his comeback in the 2004/05 season , but he did not yet make his final breakthrough. In total, Schlaudraff played ten games for Borussia until December 31, 2004.

Alemannia Aachen

In January 2005, the three-time U-21 international moved initially on loan to the second division Alemannia Aachen , for whom he was used for the first time on January 24 (18th matchday) in the 0-1 away defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt . In the 17 second round games, he was used 15 times. In the 2005/06 season he developed into a leading player, played 29 games (11 goals), was firmly tied to Alemannia Aachen and was promoted to the Bundesliga . After 28 games and eight goals, he was the club's most successful goalscorer, but was relegated back to the 2nd Bundesliga with Alemannia at the end of the season . On December 20, 2006, with his goal to make it 4-2, he sealed the elimination of FC Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup . In the back series, when his move to FC Bayern Munich for the coming season was already certain, he was repeatedly ignored by coach Michael Frontzeck .

FC Bayern Munich

At the beginning of 2007 , Bayern Munich signed him for a fixed transfer fee of 1.2 million euros. He had previously rejected an offer from Werder Bremen . His debut was hampered by a back injury that required surgery. He only played eight Bundesliga games for the first team and five regional league games for the second team . Since Schlaudraff was unable to prevail against Luca Toni , Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski , the season was not particularly successful for him. Nevertheless, various Bundesliga clubs expressed interest in his commitment. Hannover 96 committed Schlaudraff, who wanted to leave Munich at his own request, for a transfer fee of an estimated 2.5 million euros.

Hannover 96

Jan Schlaudraff celebrates Hannover 96's most successful season

On April 22, 2008, Schlaudraff signed a contract dated June 30, 2012 with Hannover 96, which came into force for the 2008/09 season . He played his first competitive game on August 9, 2008 in the DFB Cup against Halleschen FC , where he contributed a goal with the goal to make it 1-0 in the Hanoverians 5-0 win. In the league, he had to wait until matchday 4 before he scored. Schlaudraff scored two goals in the 5-1 home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In total, he scored seven goals in 32 games in his first year. In the 2009/10 season he was only used in ten games for the first and in two games for the second team. In summer 2010 he was elected to the team council for the first time, surprisingly for outsiders. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season , coach Mirko Slomka suggested to him to join another club. Until the end of the transfer window, however, he did not move and let it be known that he wanted to fulfill his contract. "96" President Martin Kind then announced that Schlaudraff would no longer play a game for Hannover 96. But on the 8th matchday, Schlaudraff came on as a substitute for Moritz Stoppelkamp in the 78th minute against his ex-club Bayern Munich . In the further course of the season he became one of the top performers in the team, especially when he acted as a hanging tip. In February 2011 Martin Kind stated that Schlaudraff was indispensable for the “96” -er. At the end of the 2010/11 season, Schlaudraff had scored four goals in 21 appearances and prepared six more.

In the first European competitive game in Hanover after 19 years, Schlaudraff scored the two goals that led to the victory against the favored FC Sevilla (on August 18, 2011) . In December 2011, Schlaudraff extended his contract with Hannover 96 early by three years until June 30, 2015. On February 16, he scored the winning goal in the first leg of the Europa League intermediate round in the match against Club Brugge with a lifted penalty to make it 2-1 . In this game he wore the captain's armband of Hannover 96 for the first time after replacing Steven Cherundolo. The contract that expired at the end of the 2014/15 season was not extended. He then ended his active football career at the age of 31.

National team

On August 21, 2002 Schlaudraff made his debut in the U-20 national team ; the game in Switzerland was lost with 1: 3. This was followed by games against Slovakia (on September 18; 2: 2), England (on October 3; 1: 2) and in 2003 again England (on February 6; 1: 2), Italy (on March 19; 3: 4) and most recently against Spain (on April 23; 0: 2). For the U-21 national team he was called up three times in 2004, where he made his debut on August 17 in Celle in the 2-0 victory over Lithuania. This was followed by a 5-3 win over Serbia and Montenegro on September 7 in Dessau and a 2-0 win over Austria on October 12 in Düsseldorf.

After good performance at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, Schlaudraff was appointed to the senior national team's squad for the first time on September 29, 2006 by national coach Joachim Löw for the international test match against Georgia and the qualifying match for the 2008 European Championship against Slovakia . In the game against Georgia on October 7, 2006, he made his debut in the national jersey when he came on in the 76th minute for Mike Hanke from Wolfsburg . In total, he ran three times in the senior team.

Career as a functionary

After the end of his active career, Schlaudraff took the exam for the coach B license and completed an internship at 1. FC Köln from July 2016. From August 2016 he worked in the area of consulting, scouting and support at the Cologne consulting agency SportsTotal. In April 2019 he became "Assistant to the Sports Management" at Hannover 96.

Before the 2019/20 season , he was promoted to sports director as the successor to Horst Heldt . Already in the following winter break, Schlaudraff was released as sports director due to "differing views on the central decisions for the future of Hannover 96" at the thirteenth table.
