Lower Saxony's footballer of the year

The honor of Lower Saxony Footballer of the Year is since 1991 the Lower Saxony Football Association (NFA) to the best footballer of or the best footballer in Lower Saxony awarded the association. Since 2007, only journalists from Lower Saxony have been choosing the winner from a selection of ten nominees and each have up to three votes.

A prominent sponsor, usually a former soccer player or a sports journalist, is present at every award ceremony, who presents the award and gives a laudatory speech . A trophy and a golden shoe from the sponsor adidas will be awarded. Further sponsors are the AOK Niedersachsen and the Lower Saxony Sport Press Association .

The first prize winner in 1991 was Uwe Groothuis from Kickers Emden . So far, the winners have been Petra Damm (1992), Stefanie Gottschlich (2004) and Martina Müller (2008). The first foreign player was the Czech Jan Šimák in 2002 . So far, no player has received multiple awards.
