Waldemar Anton (born July 20, 1996 in Olmaliq , Uzbekistan , as Wladimir Anton ; Uzbek Valdemar Anton ) is a German football player . The central defender is under contract with VfB Stuttgart and is a former German U21 international.
Life
Anton was born in Olmaliq in the former Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan to Russian-German parents. When Waldemar Anton was two years old, his family moved to Germany as a late repatriate and his first name was changed from Wladimir to Waldemar . In addition to German, he also speaks Russian .
Career
societies
At the age of seven, Anton began playing football for the Hanover district club Mühlenberger SV . In 2006 he was scouted by Hannover 96 and in 2008 moved to their youth department. In the 2014/15 season he was the captain of the A youth team of 96.
For the 2015/16 season, Anton moved up to the first team, but initially only played for the second team in the Regionalliga Nord . On September 20, 2015, he was in the Bundesliga team for the first time for the away game against FC Augsburg , but was not used. He made his debut on February 27, 2016 in a 2-1 away win against VfB Stuttgart , after being substituted on for Hiroshi Kiyotake in added time. On April 15, 2016, Anton scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 2-0 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach . At the end of the season he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with the team . At the end of May 2016, Anton extended his long-term contract in Hanover. In the 2016/17 season he was promoted directly back to the Bundesliga with Hanover. In August 2018, Hanover coach André Breitenreiter announced that he would go into the 2018/19 season with 22-year-old Anton as the youngest Bundesliga captain to date. At the beginning of March 2019, 29-year-old Marvin Bakalorz was appointed the new captain by Thomas Doll , who took over the relegation-threatened team at the end of January 2019. Anton remained on the team council and felt the situation as a "relief".
On July 28, 2020, Anton moved to VfB Stuttgart and signed a contract with the Swabians that ran until the end of June 2024.
National team
Anton made his debut on September 2, 2016 in a 3-0 win in the friendly against Slovakia in the German U21 national team . In June 2017 , he won the U21 European Championship in Poland as part of the squad with the team .
Since Anton has not yet played for an senior national team, a change of association is still possible. He can basically choose between three national teams: Russia , since his parents and grandparents lived as Russian- Germans in the Soviet Union , Uzbekistan , his country of birth, and Germany , where he grew up since he was two. The Uzbek football association contacted him in 2017, but changing associations was out of the question for him. He is keeping the option with the Russian national team open, but the Russian Federation has not yet contacted him .
