Antonis Aidonis ( Greek Αντώνης Αηδόνης , born May 22, 2001 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) is a German - Greek football player . The defender is under contract with VfB Stuttgart and is a young German national player.
Career
society
In his youth, Aidonis first played for VfL Neckarau and TSV Neckarau before joining the youth team at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons he played 48 times in the B-Junior Bundesliga with the B-Jugend and scored three goals.
For the season 2018/19 changed Aidonis the A-youth of VfB Stuttgart . On November 10, 2018 he made his debut in the Bundesliga against 1. FC Nürnberg under Markus Weinzierl . In the further course of the season another assignment in the Bundesliga followed. In the U19, Aidonis was a regular player 22 times in the A-Juniors Bundesliga and scored one goal. He was also used in all 4 games on the way to winning the DFB Junior Cup .
In preparation for the second division season 2019/20 Aidonis took under new head coach Tim Walter at the first training camp of the second division team in part before the time being with the second team further trained and with this in the league season should start. After Marcin Kamiński was injured, Aidonis was back in the squad for the second division team on Matchday 2 without being substituted on. As a result, the club signed Nathaniel Phillips, another central defender, alongside Maxime Awoudja , Holger Badstuber and Marc-Oliver Kempf , so that Aidonis was no longer part of the professional squad. After 13 league appearances, he returned to the professional squad in winter preparation under Walter's successor Pellegrino Matarazzo . By the end of the season, he was still in 3 other second division games in the matchday squad, but without being substituted. The professional team made it back to the Bundesliga. In the league team, Aidonis made 16 appearances (all in the starting XI). The league season had to be canceled after 21 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic , whereupon the VfB second team was declared champions and promoted to the Regionalliga Südwest .
Before the 2020/21 season, Aidonis extended his contract until June 30, 2023.
National team
In May 2016, Aidonis made his first two appearances with the German U15 national team against the Netherlands. On his debut for the German U16 team , he scored his first international goal against Wales on September 11, 2016. For the German U17 national team , Aidonis was successful for the first time in front of goal in the 1-0 opening win at the Algarve Cup against the Netherlands on February 9, 2018. After scoring another U17 international goal against Norway in the European Championship qualification on March 21, 2018 , Aidonis took part in the finals of the U17 European Championship 2018 with Germany .
