Roy Präger (born September 22, 1971 in Zossen ) is a former German soccer player .
Life
Präger finished school after the 10th grade and trained as an industrial mechanic. His football career began in 1978 at SG Kummersdorf / Fernneuendorf , from where he moved to BSG Motor Sperenberg in 1981 . There he played until 1985 when he was delegated to BSG Stahl Brandenburg . He stayed there until June 1992. During this time he played three games in the GDR Oberliga , five promotion games to the 2nd Bundesliga (1 goal) and 32 games in the 2nd Bundesliga (3 goals).
In June 1992, Präger moved to SC Fortuna Köln , where he was jokingly called Chancentod by his colleagues because he needed many attempts to score. For Cologne he played 104 times in the 2nd Bundesliga until 1995 and scored 15 goals. In 1993, Präger took part in the military world championship in Morocco with the Bundeswehr national team and took third place.
In July 1995 he joined VfL Wolfsburg , with whom he made promotion to the Bundesliga in 1997 . Präger played for the Wolves until 1999 , for whom he scored eleven goals in 64 second division games and 22 goals in 62 first division games. With 14 goals this season, including the first Bundesliga goal ever for Wolfsburg, he played a key role in staying up in the first Bundesliga year.
In 1999, Präger moved to Hamburger SV , to which he remained loyal until 2002. During this time he played 83 times in the Bundesliga (18 goals), 6 times in the Champions League (1 goal) and twice in the UEFA Cup . He also came to work in the German A-2 national team . However, he could never really establish himself, which is why he returned to VfL Wolfsburg in 2002. There he played 28 games in which he scored two goals.
Roy Präger played 173 times in the 1st Bundesliga and 200 times in the 2nd Bundesliga. He got 42 first and 29 second division goals. At the end of the 2004/2005 season he ended his career as a professional footballer. Since then he has been team manager at VfL Wolfsburg. He has been working in the marketing department of Wolfsburg since 2008. From September 2007 to 2010 he also played as a central defender in the Wolfsburg district league for TSV Hehlingen. He then ended his active career as a footballer again at the age of 38. Since then he has only played in the traditional team of VfL Wolfsburg and in the old men team of SV Reislingen-Neuhaus. Since 2011 he has been the sporting director of the VfL Wolfsburg football school.
Roy Präger was scorer of the month in February 1998 and December 2001 . In 1998 he was also voted Lower Saxony's Footballer of the Year .
Most recently, he was an ambassador for the 2006 World Cup for people with disabilities in Germany and was the city of Wolfsburg's ambassador for the 2011 Women's World Cup .
Präger is married and has a daughter (* 1999) and a son (* 2007).
