Club career

Youth / Second Team

Hanke began playing football in 1989 at TuS 1910 Wiescherhöfen ; In 1996 he moved to Hammer SpVg . After a stopover at VfL Bochum , he moved to FC Schalke 04 in 2000 at the age of 17 . On September 16, 2001, Hanke first came to the amateur team in the Oberliga Westfalen in a game of the 8th matchday against the DJK TuS Hordel to use, in which he scored his first goal in the 89th minute to 4-2 final score. Stations in Schalke, Wolfsburg and Hanover

In the Bundesliga , Hanke played his first game on May 4, 2002 (34th matchday) in the 1: 2 defeat against VfL Wolfsburg , when he came on for Youri Mulder in the 78th minute . For the 2005/06 season, the then manager of VfL Thomas Strunz brought Hanke to VfL Wolfsburg. For the 2007/08 season he moved to Bundesliga competitor Hannover 96 , where he signed a contract until 2011.

Borussia Monchengladbach

During the winter break of the 2010/11 season , Hanke moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach . Up until the winter break for Hannover 96 he had only been able to book a few appearances after substitution, but initially the role of the supplementary player remained for him at Borussia-Park . On the penultimate day of the match he scored his first goal of the season for Borussia. His goal to make it 1-0 ten minutes before the end of the game against SC Freiburg and his submission to the 2-0 final score two minutes later by Marco Reus let Borussia Mönchengladbach leave the direct relegation ranks for the first time after 24 matchdays. Borussia did not give up 16th place in the table at the season finale and thus reached the relegation games against the second division third-placed VfL Bochum on May 19 and 25, 2011 , in which the class was held. In 2012 and 2013, Hanke played a key role in the recovery of Gladbach Borussia. He developed into a congenial partner of Reus and together with Arango, Herrmann and Reus he shaped the “Borussia Barcelona” style of play, the fast and extremely successful one-touch football.

In the 2011/12 season, which was successful with fourth place , Hanke was the most dangerous player in Borussia with eight goals alongside Marco Reus.

Sc freiburg

At the end of February 2013, Borussia Mönchengladbach announced that it would not extend the contract with Hanke, which was running out at the end of the season, as, according to coach Lucien Favre, the forward position was sufficiently filled with Luuk de Jong and other younger players. Then Hanke moved to league rivals SC Freiburg for the 2013/14 season . He scored his first goal for SC on matchday one in a 3-1 defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Although Hanke's contract in Freiburg was still valid until June 30, 2016, he was let go early because he was no longer taken into account in the club's plans.

Guizhou Renhe

At the beginning of July 2014 he received a contract valid until the end of 2015 with the Chinese first division club Guizhou Renhe . He played there together with Zvjezdan Misimović , who played in the Bundesliga until 2010. Hanke made his debut on July 20, 2014 (15th matchday) in the 4-0 defeat in the away game against Harbin Yiteng . He scored his first goal in the Chinese Super League on August 24, 2014 (5th matchday) in a 3-1 home game against Henan Jianye with the goal to make it 2-1 in the 78th minute. After a few months, his contract was canceled and Hanke was without a club. He ended his sports career in December 2014.

comeback

In February 2018, Hanke joined his youth club TuS 1910 Wiescherhöfen in the Landesliga Westfalen - Season 3 .

National team

The striker, who was substituted for the injured Miroslav Klose at the Confederations Cup in 2005, played his first international match for the German national soccer team on June 8, 2005 over 29 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Russia in Mönchengladbach. He scored his only international goal on June 18, 2005 in a 3-0 win against the Tunisian team in Cologne in a total of three minutes. In the game for 3rd place on June 29, 2005, in which he participated for the first time from the start of the game, he was expelled in the 53rd minute of the game for gross foul play against Carlos Salcido , player of the Mexican national team. He was thus banned for the first two games of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, for which he was nominated by Jürgen Klinsmann on May 15, 2006 . For his only World Cup appearance , he came as a substitute in the game for third place , which the German team won 3-1 against Portugal . He played his last international match on November 17, 2007 in qualifying for the 2008 European Championship against Cyprus .

Others

Hanke scored a curious goal on April 17, 2004: He scored from the kick-off circle in the home game of his club FC Schalke 04 against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Bayer goalkeeper Hans Jörg Butt was still on the way back from a self-converted penalty for Leverkusen and had not noticed that the game had already been released. Hanke's goal was voted April 2004 Goal of the Month.

Hanke is allergic to turf and suffered from pustules and skin irritation after every game.

He married his long-time girlfriend Jenny on December 17, 2012. He has a daughter and a son with her.
