Youth, Munich and Bochum

About the youth clubs SV Nord Lerchenau, TSV Forstenried, SV Gartenstadt Trudering and FT Gern , Misimović came in 2000 to the amateurs of Bayern Munich , for whom he was active for four seasons. In the 2002/03 and 2003/04 season Misimović came three times with the professionals to Bundesliga appearances . He made his debut on April 12, 2003 (28th matchday) - in the 79th minute for Bastian Schweinsteiger - in the 0-1 home defeat against Werder Bremen . In the other two missions, Misimović was substituted on in the final minute for Roy Makaay . In that season he played for the amateurs for the last time and was the top scorer in the Regionalliga Süd with 24 goals .

On the recommendation of his coach Hermann Gerland , Misimović moved to VfL Bochum in the summer of 2004 , where he continued to develop into an alternative in the attacking midfield. At VfL Bochum he made his European debut in September 2004 in the first round of the UEFA Cup against Standard Liège.

After VfL Bochum's relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2005 , Misimović quickly became a regular. 2006/07 - after a successful direct promotion - he played for another year for VfL Bochum and moved - not least for family reasons - to 1. FC Nürnberg for the 2007/08 season without a transfer and with a contract until 2011 .

1. FC Nuremberg

At 1. FC Nürnberg Misimović was immediately one of the most important players on the offensive and after the first six months was voted “Cluberer of the first half” in an internet vote. With five goals (including two penalties) he was also the top scorer at the time . In addition, Misimović was named Footballer of the Year in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007. In the winter break, the groin problems that Misimović had in the first half of the season increased, which is why he left the training camp in Portimão early and missed the first game of the second half of the season. In the second game on February 9, 2008, he suffered a torn ligament and was again out for some time. Misimović could not play in the UEFA Cup against Benfica Lisbon either. It was only on the fifth matchday of the second half of the season when Misimović came on as a substitute for the away game at Hannover 96 together with long-term injured Róbert Vittek in the 46th minute. He scored a goal in the 52nd minute. On March 29, 2008 (26th matchday) Misimović scored the opening goal in a 1-1 home game against Bayern Munich. This hit was voted goal of the week in the ARD sports show . At the end of the season he was the club's top scorer with ten league goals. Misimović was the first player to express a desire to leave the club due to relegation.

VfL Wolfsburg

For the 2008/09 season he moved to VfL Wolfsburg for a transfer fee of 3.9 million euros . There Misimović scored five goals and ten assists in the first half of the season and was dubbed the best attacking midfielder in the first half of the season by football magazine kicker . At the end of the season, in addition to his 7 goals this season with 20 assists, he set a new Bundesliga record and thus had a large share in winning the German championship of VfL Wolfsburg.

At the beginning of August 2009, Misimović confirmed that he would prematurely extend his contract for another year until June 30, 2013. Misimović 2009 was candidate of the UEFA in the Team of the Year to be selected.

In the 2009/10 season he was the second best goal setter in the league with 15 assists. VfL Wolfsburg finished the season in eighth place and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League , but were then eliminated from the eventual finalists FC Fulham .

Galatasaray Istanbul

For the coming season, VfL Wolfsburg signed Diego for the playmaker position and therefore Misimović threatened a season on the bench. On the last day of the 2010 summer transfer period, he moved from VfL Wolfsburg to Galatasaray Istanbul for around eight million euros . Payment was agreed in installments and the transfer rights remain with VfL Wolfsburg as security until the last installment payment, because Galatasaray was unable to provide a bank guarantee itself. After less than three months, Misimović had fallen out with coach Gheorghe Hagi and was suspended. In March 2011 he left Galatasaray Istanbul with immediate effect and moved to Russia to Dynamo Moscow .

Dynamo Moscow

Misimović signed a three-year contract; the transfer fee for him was five million euros. With the beginning of the 10th season of Premjer League , the first matchday 12 March 2011, debuted Misimović for FC Dynamo Moscow, when he in the 2: 3 defeat to Lokomotiv Moscow for the second half of Aleksandr Sapeta came on . He scored his first goal on March 19, 2011 (2nd match day) in a 3-1 home win over FK Rostov with a penalty that made it 2-0.

Beijing Renhe

Misimovic moved to the Chinese first division team Guizhou Renhe on January 4, 2013 for the equivalent of around 3.5 million euros , with whom he signed a three-year contract until the end of December 2015. He made his club debut on February 27, 2013 in the group game of the AFC Champions League in the 0-1 defeat in the home game against Kashiwa Reysol . In his league debut at the start of the season on March 8, 2013, he scored his first goal in the 31st minute in the 1: 2 defeat at home to Qingdao Jonoon with the opening goal.

He ended his career as a footballer on March 3, 2015 , before making his comeback in June. In the 2015 season , the club was relegated to China League One and moved to Beijing for the new season . At the end of 2016, Misimovic announced the end of his career again.

National team

In 2004 Misimović became a national player and was meanwhile captain of the senior national team . Injuries and the double burden of playing for the club and the national team led to the decision on April 8, 2008 to no longer play for his country and to concentrate on the relegation battle with 1. FC Nürnberg. After a conversation with national coach Meho Kodro, he revised his decision. In September 2008 in qualifying for the World Cup , he managed a hat trick in a 7-0 win against Estonia . This was Bosnia's greatest victory to date. In September 2012 Misimović was the double goalscorer in the 8-1 record win against Liechtenstein. With his country's national team, he took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where Bosnia-Herzegovina was unlucky enough to be eliminated in the preliminary round. Misimović had prepared a goal against Nigeria that was wrongly not recognized. Shortly thereafter, Nigeria scored the winning goal. After the World Cup, on August 15, 2014, Misimović announced his resignation from the national team. He played again for the senior national team in Zenica on May 28, 2018 in a goalless draw in the friendly against the Montenegrin national team , but was substituted in the 17th minute.
