The Anadolu Agency , German  agency Anadolu ( English Anadolu Agency ), the state news agency in Turkey . It is usually called AA or Anadolu for short . The headquarters are in Çankaya in Ankara , the capital of Turkey. In 2015, the agency had 75 offices in Turkey and representations in 81 countries, where it tries to spread the view of the ACP government, for example through Twitter .

history

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey under Mustafa Kemal Pascha decided to found the agency on April 6, 1920 at the suggestion of the writer Halide Edip and the journalist Yunus Nadi in Geyve . The aim of the agency at the time was to spread news about the Turkish liberation war at home and abroad.

Since Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Recovery Party (AKP) came to power in 2002, the AA and Turkish Broadcasting Corporation (TRT) have been restructured so that they have been brought into line with government. This high degree of government control over the AA and TRT as well as the higher government influence on the private media contributed to the establishment of a system of government in Turkey that is dominated by one party, similar to a one-party system . An academic article from Turkey Studies states:

"These public news producers, especially during the most recent term of the AKP government, have been controlled by officials from a small network close to the party leadership."
