The II. Division 1955/56 was the seventh season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the 1955/56 season there was a single-track II Division in west , south-west and south Germany . The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.
west
The VfL Bochum and Meidericher SV moved up to the Oberliga West. Hamborn 07 and Bayer 04 Leverkusen were relegated from the league . Rhenania Würselen and VfB 03 Bielefeld had to relegate to the association league and were replaced by the Dortmund SC 95 and VfB Speldorf .

The Sportfreunde Saarbrücken and FV Speyer rose in the Oberliga Southwest. FV Engers 07 and TuRa Ludwigshafen were relegated from the Oberliga Südwest . The SG 05 Pirmasens and Hassia Bingen had to dismount in the amateur league and were Viktoria Hühnerfeld and SV Niederlahnstein replaced.

The champions of the three southwest German amateur leagues and the southwest German cup winner Phoenix Bellheim took part in the promotion round . The round was also the final round of the southwest German amateur championship, in which the games with Bellheimer participation were not rated.
