The VfL Neuwied (full name: Verein für Leibesübungen Neuwied eV ) is a sports club from Neuwied . The first football team plays in the district league B. In the 1940s, the team played for two years in the then first-class Gauliga Moselland , while in the 1950s seven seasons followed in the second-class II. Division Southwest.

The club was founded on September 8, 1908 as FC Viktoria 08 Neuwied . In 1910, the Germania Neuwied club joined FC Viktoria. In 1919 the name was changed to SV Viktoria 08 Neuwied . Between September 8, 1941 and 1945, SV Viktoria was involved in the KSG Neuwied . On February 8, 1947, the association changed its name to TuS Neuwied , before the current name was adopted on December 9, 1947.

SV Viktoria first appeared in national football in 1941 when the club was included in the newly created Gauliga Moselland. In the seasons 1941/42 and 1942/43, the new again were each last in the Eastern group. During the 1943/44 season, the team was withdrawn from the game.

In 1951 VfL Neuwied became Rhineland champions and qualified for the German amateur championship . In the round of 16, the team lost to SSV Troisdorf 05 . For the 1951/52 season, VfL was included in the newly created II. Southwest Division. The greatest success of this time was fourth place in the 1953/54 season .
