The SC West Cologne (full name: Sport-Club West-Cologne 1900/11 eV) is a sports club from Cologne-Neuehrenfeld . The club played for two years in the then second class II Division . The first soccer team currently plays in the district league.

history

The club was created in 1948 through the merger of the clubs SV Rhenania Köln and FC Phönix Köln . Rhenania Köln was founded in 1900 as Kölner FC Rhenania . In 1911, the Kölner Spielverein 02 joined the Rhenania, which one year later merged with the Köln-Ehrenfelder SV 06 to form the Köln-Ehrenfelder SV Rhenania . In 1931 the West Cologne boxing club joined the club. FC Phönix Köln was founded in 1911.

The SV Rhenania Köln played in the season 1933/34 in the Gauliga Middle Rhine . After the merger, the club, now known as SC West, had the opportunity to qualify for the relegation round to the West Football League . The playoff against Prussia Dellbrück was lost 3: 4 after extra time. Then the SC West was included in the second-class II. Division, in which the club held for two years.

For the 1951/52 season , SC West formed a syndicate with VfL Cologne in 1899 , which was dissolved after the first half of the season. In 1954, the SC West returned to the Landesliga Mittelrhein, but three years later missed the qualification for the Verbandsliga Mittelrhein . Until 1974 the SC West belonged to the national league.

After several years in lower leagues, the SC West rose twice in a row in 1998 and 1999 and thus returned to the association league. After relegation in 2001, the club played in the national league. In the 2010/11 season they rose from bottom of the table in the district league and had to go to the district league A four years later. After three years in the district league A, he was promoted to the district league again in the 2017/18 season.

youth

In the 2010/11 season, the U19 made the leap into the Middle Rhine League, after having played in the district league and the special class of the Cologne soccer district for several years. The U17 rose in the 2007/08 season from the association league and only just missed direct re-promotion. A year later you even had to go down to the special class. The U15 has been playing in the second highest division, the district league, for several years. In the 2016/17 season, the U19s were promoted to the Middle Rhine League after being relegated shortly before. In 2017/18 the team was able to hold the league. The team will also compete in the Middle Rhine League in the 2020/21 season. The U17 just barely missed promotion to the Middle Rhine League in 2017/18, but this could be made up a year later. The U17s will also compete in the Middle Rhine League in 2020/21, so that SC West has established its two oldest junior teams in the second-highest division.

In the lower grades, you mostly play on the district level (U13, U14, U15), otherwise on the highest district level (U12, U16).

The youth department of SC West Köln has also been a cooperation partner of 1. FC Köln for several years .
