Manfred Manglitz (born March 8, 1940 in Cologne ) is a former German football player .

Career

Manglitz played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen from 1961 to 1963 . In 1962 he rose with Leverkusen in the football league West . In the 1962/63 league season he made 26 appearances for Bayer 04, which came ninth as a promoted player.

From 1963 to 1971 he played as a goalkeeper in the Bundesliga, first for Meidericher SV , or after its renaming in 1967 for MSV Duisburg , and finally for 1. FC Cologne . Manglitz was the first goalkeeper to score in the Bundesliga. In June 1967 he scored for MSV against Borussia Mönchengladbach with a penalty to make it 1: 3.

In the national team he was considered from 1965 to 1970. He took part in the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1970 and finished third with the team.

With the team he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf in 1966.

Manglitz, also known as "Cassius" because of his big mouth, was then involved in the events surrounding the Bundesliga scandal in 1971 when he made clear offers to Kickers Offenbach to influence the game. Horst-Gregorio Canellas , then President of Kickers, recorded the conversation on tape and played it at a reception the day after the season. He ended his career after the 1970/71 season because he was banned for life for corruption. After his pardon in 1974 he played for the FSV building cleaning company Cologne , before he returned to paid football in 1975/76 as goalkeeper of 1. FC Mülheim-Styrum and played five games in the 2. Bundesliga .

He later turned away from football. Around 1975 he opened a restaurant in Spain , where Manglitz still lives today.

Before 1989 Manglitz was married to Irma Esch, today's wife of the building contractor Josef Esch .
