career

Amateur football and Oberliga West until 1968

Karl Lambertin's football career began at SC West Köln and reached its first high point in the 1957/58 season at Jugend 07 Bergheim , where he distinguished himself as a goal scorer with over 70 goals. The promoted to the Oberliga West, Borussia Mönchengladbach, then signed the attacker for the 1958/59 season. In the transfer game for the other newcomer Bosco Sencar, on August 3, 1958 against the Dutch club NAC Breda , Lambertin came for the first time as a center forward and scored a goal to the 5-3 success of the Bökelberg team. Trainer Fritz Pliska had the attack in the former World Cup system with Karl-Heinz Mülhausen , Albert Jansen , Lambertin, Egmont Kablitz and Willi Wicken . However, since the ex-amateur had already learned and practiced the profession of photographer and photo businessman in Cologne, the job was more important to him and there was no big money to be made in the top league at the time, Lambertin did not invest the necessary energy and time to make the team in Mönchengladbach to belong. He made his league debut on December 28, 1958 in the 1: 3 away defeat at Meidericher SV as a center forward. This was followed by missions against Schalke 04, Rot-Weiss Essen and Alemannia Aachen, before he ended his activity on the Lower Rhine after five league games with the 0-2 away defeat on March 15, 1959 at Viktoria Köln. He terminated his three-year contract, devoted himself increasingly to his work as a press photographer and joined SpVg Frechen 20 in the Mittelrhein Football Association . A sixth league assignment on March 1, 1959 at the Duisburg game club was canceled after a protest. Regular players on the offensive in Mönchengladbach were the strikers Albert Brülls , Martin Quarz, Kablitz and Mülhausen in the 1958/59 season .

With the black and whites from the sports park at the seven trees in Frechen, Lambertin was promoted to the Mittelrhein Association League in the 1960/61 season. For the next six years, the tireless driver of the game, whether as a libero or a center forward, was one of the outstanding players in football in the Mittelrhein Association. In the 1963/64 season, the later 105-time selection player won the national cup of amateurs with the Mittelrheinelf .

Fortuna Cologne, 1968 to 1972

At the age of 32 Lambertin signed a contract with Fortuna Cologne in the Regionalliga West for the 1968/69 season. Patron Jean Löring had persuaded the veteran to switch to the foundation of the Bundesliga. In addition to the captain from Frechen, the regional league climber of 1967 brought players Helmar Schwarzbach (goalkeeper), Günter Nasdalla , Hans Krostina , Karl-Heinz Struth , Dieter Gerhards , Franz-Peter Neumann and Peter Staerk to Cologne's Südstadt. Lambertin fully met expectations, played for Fortuna in all 34 games and scored seven goals. The team of coach Jupp Schmidt finished in 13th place, and only striker Friedhelm Otters exceeded the hit rate of the regular defense chief and Libero with eight goals. Lambertin made his regional league debut on August 18, 1968 in the 2-0 home defeat against VfL Bochum. With goalkeeper Schwarzbach and field players Peter Boers , Staerk and Werner Walter, he formed the Fortuna defense against the VfL attack with Hans Grieger , Gustav Eversberg , Hans-Jürgen Jansen , Dieter Versen and Werner Balte . The two derbies against Viktoria Köln each ended goalless 0-0. At the end of the round there was a 3-1 home win against TSV Marl-Hüls.

In his second season with Fortuna Cologne, 1969/70, the start failed under the new coach Vladimir Beara despite the Bundesliga experienced newcomers Wolfgang Fahrian and Anton Regh with 2:14 points. It was not until the ninth game day, October 19, 1969, that the first double point was won with a 4-1 win against Wattenscheid 09. Lambertin continued to play at a high level and after the 3-1 victory in the local derby against Viktoria Köln - with Rudolf Pöggeler , Hans Sturm , Paul Alger and coach Hans Neuschäfer - on December 21, 1969, Cologne EXPRESS recognized it with the following description: “Without Lambertin would only be worth half to Fortuna Köln. The Fortunen captain turned the wheel around after the 0-1 deficit and delivered a great game. ”In the second regional league year he also played all 34 league games and scored ten goals.

In the third season, 1970/71, the new coach Ernst-Günter Habig and the newcomers Uwe Blotenberg , Wolfgang Glock , Helmut Bergfelder , Manfred Kreis , Werner Waddey and Gerd Zimmermann moved up to the top of the table. Outstanding were the two 2-0 home victories against champions VfL Bochum (November 15, 1970) and runner-up Fortuna Düsseldorf (October 31, 1970), with the captain as the libero with Vorstopper Zimmermann in front of goalkeeper Fahrian forming the center of the defensive. The second leg on May 2, 1971 in Bochum lost Lambertin and colleagues in front of 20,000 spectators with a goal by Dieter Versen in the 93rd minute of the game with 2: 3 goals. Lambertin scored seven goals in 31 league appearances, and Fortuna Köln came fourth in the Western Regionalliga.

At the age of 35, Lambertin went into his fourth regional league season in 1971/72 alongside the newcomers Noel Campbell , Rolf Bauerkämper , Rolf Kucharski and Hans-Günter Neues . After the 1: 4 defeat on September 19, 1971 at Hafenstrasse against Rot-Weiss Essen, he ended his playing at Fortuna Cologne after a total of 105 regional league appearances with 24 goals. He embodied everything in one person at Fortuna: captain, sweeper, goalscorer. For ten-time national goalkeeper Wolfgang Fahrian, Lambertin was number one: "I've never played with a better Libero."

Back in Frechen, 1972 to 1986

Lambertin returned to the game association Frechen for the 1972/73 season. With coach Fritz Pott , he played a major role in winning the Middle Rhine Championship. Frechen won the title in the association league ahead of Viktoria Köln and the amateurs of 1. FC Köln. In 1974/75 he experienced relegation to the state league and in 1979/80 the renewed championship in the association league and thus as a 44-year-old in the 1980/81 season the association round in the amateur upper league of North Rhine . In the league season, the senior was also in the two games in the DFB Cup against DSC Wanne-Eickel and Bünder SV (1: 3) as a Libero. Karl Lambertin is the oldest goalscorer in the main round of the DFB Cup to this day thanks to his goal on October 4, 1980, at a 1-1 draw from Frechen against Bünder SV. After a red card in the association league game against VfR Übach-Palenberg in the 1985/86 season, the Frechen legend ended her playing career at the age of 49.

Lambertin are credited with around 2000 games with nearly 2000 goals. The grandfather of three and operator of a large sports shop in Frechen also played tennis at a high level with the senior citizens of the TC Deckstein in addition to football - in 1981 he became city champion - and in winter the athlete was a passionate skier. Even more than the goals and games, Jean Löring was impressed that Lambertin was everything in one person after his return to Frechen 20 - just like him: President, coach and player. Loering: “Karl paid back everything that was given to him as a player. Football needs guys like that. "
