Hans Grieger (born September 17, 1941 in Bogendorf in Silesia ; † 1998 ) was a German football player .

Career

The relatively small striker, who was just called "Hansi" everywhere, began his career at SV Netphen in Siegerland , where his family found a new home after being expelled from Silesia in 1946.

From there he was appointed to the German national soccer team of amateurs in the spring of 1965 and completed an international match as a left winger against Italy (0: 1) in Heilbronn.

In the summer of 1965 he left SV Netphen. He was practically in agreement with Borussia Dortmund , but the completely surprising change of Schalke "Stan" Libuda to BVB ruined his chances at the Bundesliga club.

So he went to VfL Bochum , for whom he played from 1965 to 1971 in the then second-rate Regionalliga West . There, in addition to his forward-looking qualities, he was particularly impressive as a mood-maker - completely unusual for a winning country, who are generally said to have a certain stubbornness. As recently as 1986, the “VfL-Magazin” reported: “The man was considered a real canon of opinion. When Hansi Grieger started to run on his wings, the venerable stadium on Castroper Strasse went wild, and when he blew the trumpet in the late hour in the club house 'Haus Frein', not a single eye remained dry. The blonde striker from Siegerland wrote a piece of VfL history. "

A serious injury ended his career in Bochum in 1971, but not his footballing career.

He continued in 1971/72 at Siegerland Regionalliga promoted VfL Klafeld-Geisweid 08 , for which he was active until the 1980s.

His greatest successes as a player with VfL Bochum were reaching the DFB Cup final in 1968 and the championship in the Regionalliga West in 1970 . In the subsequent round of promotion to the Bundesliga, however, they failed - despite a 4-0 success on June 6, 1970 against VfL Wolfsburg , to which Grieger contributed two goals. The other two goals were marked by Hans Walitza . It was not until 1971 that the team under coach Hermann Eppenhoff made it into the Bundesliga after the second western championship in a row through a sovereign promotion round with seven wins from eight games .

Grieger died at the age of 57 after a severe stroke .
