Peter Boers (born November 24, 1946 ) is a former German soccer player . The defensive player completed a total of 311 league games for SC Fortuna Köln and was one of the club's most important players in the 1970s.

Career

Regionalliga West, 1967 to 1973

Boers played for SC Fortuna Köln for over twenty years , after he had moved as a youth player from Sportfreunde in 1893 from the Cologne district of Riehl to Fortuna in Neustadt-Süd . Boers was already a member of the Südstadtverein in the Mittelrhein association league in the 1966/67 season, when the runner-up and third place in the promotion round together with Lüner SV and VfB Bottrop achieved promotion to the second-class regional football league West . Boers made his regional league debut on October 8, 1967 in a 1-1 away draw against Eintracht Gelsenkirchen, when he came on for Friedhelm Otters in the 12th minute . This season he came to 21 league appearances on the side of teammates such as Hans Löring and Ernst-Günter Habig and with the 16th place just reached relegation. In the 1972/73 season Boers reached the runner-up in the Regionalliga West with Fortuna and President Loering's team then prevailed in the promotion round under coach Martin Luppen and made the leap into the Bundesliga . Boers played a total of 153 league games and scored one goal in Regionalliga West from 1967 to 1973.

Bundesliga and 2nd division, 1973 to 1978

Fortuna Cologne started in the Bundesliga on August 11, 1973 with a 1: 3 away defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He came on in the 63rd minute for Noel Campbell . President Löring tried it at the start with coach Volker Kottmann , jumped in from January 1st to January 20th as an interim solution and finished the round with Willi Holdorf as coach in 17th place and thus immediately rose to the new 2nd Bundesliga for the 1974/75 season. Boers had played in 28 Bundesliga games. In retrospect, Boers rated his time in the Bundesliga as follows:

“When we got promoted to the Bundesliga in 1973, we were all euphoric and thought nothing could happen to us. First and foremost our President. I think if we had approached the matter more critically, but above all more professionally, we would have stayed in the Bundesliga for more than a year. "

Even after relegation he remained loyal to Fortuna and played there until 1979 and made 133 competitive games (3 goals) in the 2nd Bundesliga before he became a sports disabled person due to two fractures of his left tibia. Then Boers trained the Fortuna amateur team for two years.
