Friedhelm Otters (born July 12, 1948 ) is a former German soccer player . In the 1973/74 season, the midfielder and attacking player completed 25 games for the newly promoted SC Fortuna Köln in the Bundesliga , scoring two goals.

Career

The striker Friedhelm Otters, who came from the Rheydter Spielverein from the Niederrhein association league, made his debut at the regional league promoted Fortuna Cologne on August 13, 1967 in what was then the second division in the DFB area. He stormed the 1-1 home draw at the Müngersdorfer Stadion against Hamborn 07 on the right wing and Jean Löring was in the middle of the team of coach Jupp Schmidt. At the end of the round, the red-whites from SC Fortuna were just able to keep their league with 16th place and Otters had played 24 league games and scored five goals. In his second regional league season, 1968/69, he was able to increase his personal record to 31 league appearances with eight goals alongside the newcomers Karl Lambertin and Karl-Heinz Struth and Fortuna took 13th place. When Fortuna stagnated with the new coach Vladimir Beara and the new goalkeeper Wolfgang Fahrian in the 1969/70 season with 14th place in the table, Otters scored five goals in 32 appearances.

The attacker then joined local rivals SC Viktoria 04 Cologne for two years . Under coach Hans Neuschäfer and alongside the veteran Hans Sturm, Viktoria came in 1970/71 in 10th place in the Regionalliga West. Otters had scored ten goals in 26 games. In his second year with Viktoria, 1971/72, he experienced relegation under the new coach Coşkun Taş . His five hits in 24 missions were not enough on the side of attacking colleagues Karl-Heinz Mödrath and Gerd Pittscheidt to prevent relegation. After two years he returned to SC Fortuna Köln for the 1972/73 season . On November 1, 1972, President Loering brought the new coach Martin Luppen from Jülich to Cologne, replacing his predecessor Ernst-Günter Habig . The 1972/73 season ended behind Rot-Weiss Essen with the second place. Otters has played 26 games in the season and scored eleven goals alongside teammates Helmut Bergfelder , Wolfgang Thier , Wolfgang Glock , Rolf Bauerkämper , Rolf Kucharski , Noel Campbell , Günter Oleknavicius , Hans-Günter Neues and Gerd Zimmermann . In the subsequent round of promotion, he played five games against the teams from FC St. Pauli , 1. FSV Mainz 05 , Karlsruher SC and Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin and scored one goal and Otters was promoted to the Bundesliga with Fortuna . Overall, the offensive player came from 1967 to 1973 to 163 regional league games in the western league and scored 44 goals.

The following year, the 1973/74 season , Otters played 25 times and scored two goals for the newly promoted team. Now, however, Martin Luppen was no longer training SC Fortuna, but Loering had entrusted the two former athletes, Volker Kottmann (until December 31, 1973) and Willi Holdorf (from January 21, 1974) with the sporting direction. Fortuna was in 17th place at the end of the season, tied with 16, Wuppertaler SV , who stayed in the league due to the better goal difference. Otters was relegated to the newly created 2nd Bundesliga with Fortuna . Until 1979 Otters played five rounds at Fortuna, consistently in the 2nd Bundesliga, completed 135 league games where he scored 21 goals. Then he let his professional career fade away and joined the FV Honnef for the 1979/80 season .
