career

youth

At TuRa 1886 Essen , Wolfgang Glock's talent grew up in the youth department. At the age of 15 he already experienced a sporting climax. On April 14, 1961 he was in the team of the DFB that played the international student game against England in Hagen . Together with Dirk Krüssenberg (goalkeeper), Günther Nasdalla, Udo Glaser and Klaus Budde , the Essen player could not prevent the 3-1 defeat on the half-left. In the youth country cup of the A-Juniors he impressed impressively in the semi-final game on October 27, 1963 in the selection of West Germany in a 2-0 win against South Germany. "The outstanding player on the field was the Essen half-left Glock, who became the director of his team and formed a splendid wing with Waddey". Glock also won the final with West Germany.

Via Eintracht Gelsenkirchen into the Bundesliga, 1964 to 1973

From the 1964/65 season, the 1.68 m tall technician with playmaker qualities played at Eintracht Gelsenkirchen in the Ückendorfer Südpark in the Regionalliga West . Coach Werner Cornelissen used the young player alongside Bernd Becker, Heinz Banschewitz and Werner Tonk in 77 games with 12 goals from 1964 to 1967. More lucrative offers then led Glock to the Kansas City Spurs and FC Zwolle for two rounds, before he landed again in the west at Schwarz-Weiß Essen in 1969 . With the team of coach Horst Witzler he completed 24 games with five hits in the 1969/70 round and was able to occupy fifth place in the table with his teammates Rolf Bauerkämper , Rolf Kucharski , Heinz-Dieter Lömm and Heiko Mertes . President and patron Hans Löring of SC Fortuna Köln brought the attacking midfielder to Cologne in the summer of 1970 with the aim of promotion to the Bundesliga . After two rounds with places four and three, the coach Martin Luppen , who was brought in by SC Jülich in 1910, made it into the promotion round in 1972/73 with the runner-up in the Regionalliga West. Fortuna prevailed against FC St. Pauli , 1. FSV Mainz 05 , Karlsruher SC and Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin and moved into the Bundesliga. Wolfgang Glock played all eight games in the promotion round. In the Regionalliga West, Glock played a total of 190 games with 50 goals.

Football Bundesliga 1973/74 with Fortuna Cologne

President Löring signed the former athlete (400 m hurdles) Volker Kottmann as a trainer for the elite class . In January 1974, he was replaced by the former Olympic gold medalist Willi Holdorf . The experiment did not succeed, Fortuna dismounted. Glock completed 33 Bundesliga games for SC Fortuna Köln in the 1973/74 season . Even his seven goals this season could not prevent relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga. With Günter Schwaba , Wolfgang Thier and Lothar Wesseler, three other former players from Eintracht Gelsenkirchen were in action at Fortuna. The light-footed midfield technician, he weighed just under 62 kg in the best days, stayed with Fortuna Cologne even after relegation.
