Günter Schwaba (born August 19, 1948 ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Schwaba played with Eintracht Gelsenkirchen in the western season of the Regionalliga. In the 1968/69 season , Schwaba and the Gelsenkircheners were relegated. In the following year the direct ascent was successful. He played 144 games and scored six goals for Eintracht in the Regionalliga.
For the season 1972/73 he moved to league rivals Fortuna Cologne . With the Fortuna, the success came quickly. In Schwaba's first season in the final table behind Rot-Weiss Essen, the second place in the table was occupied. In the subsequent promotion round, the players of coach Martin Luppen prevailed against FC St. Pauli , 1. FSV Mainz 05 , Karlsruher SC and Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin and thus rose to the first-class Bundesliga . In the Bundesliga he played 23 games and had to go into the second division after the season due to the poorer goal difference compared to Wuppertaler SV . This is how Schwaba played with his teammates in the 2nd Bundesliga .
He then moved to the third-rate Bonner SC , where he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga after his first season under coach Martin Luppen . At the end of the 1976/77 season, the BSC, where Siegfried Melzig had replaced Luppen as coach in the last games , had just managed to stay in the league as 16th. The 32-year-old Schwaba contributed with 31 games in which he scored a goal. Since the Bonners paid gross for net, they were the first professional club in Germany to have their license withdrawn. Many players then left the sports park, but he stayed until the end of his career in 1980. In his last season he also took over the position on the sidelines. For the Bonn team he played a total of 121 games.
