career

Beginnings and Oberliga West until 1963

At the age of 20 Albert Jansen dared to move from 1. FC Mönchengladbach to the neighboring club Borussia for the 1957/58 round . From the amateur camp in the Lower Rhine region, he moved from the blue-yellow team to Borussia, who had just been relegated to the 2nd division West , to the Bökelberg. For the runner-up and the immediate return to the Oberliga West , the talent contributed 15 goals in 25 appearances and was behind Albert Brülls - who scored 23 goals in 29 games - Borussia Mönchengladbach's most successful goalscorer. In the first two rounds in the Oberliga West - he made his debut on August 17, 1958 in a 2-2 draw at 1. FC Köln as a right runner - the small and strong defender fought - but he was also coached by Fritz Pliska des Often used as an outside runner - with Borussia to stay in the league. In the third league season, 1960/61 , the team under coach Bernd Oles moved up to sixth place. Albert Jansen had played in 27 games and scored two goals.

But he celebrated the greatest success with his teammates in the cup. First, Gladbach prevailed in the West German Cup in the semifinals with a 4-3 win against Borussia Dortmund . The Gladbach defense had to do with the dangerous Dortmund attack on August 6, 1960 with Gerd Cyliax , Aki Schmidt , Jürgen Schütz , Timo Konietzka and Hans Cieslarczyk . In the final, Mönchengladbach prevailed 3-1 against 1. FC Köln on August 24th in Düsseldorf. Albert Jansen acted as the right wing runner in both encounters. The 2-0 win on September 7th in Münster against the reigning German champions Hamburger SV was sensational . Here the Hamburg playmaker Klaus Stürmer had to experience the duel strength of the "terrier on duty" . Jansen and his teammates won the final on October 5th with 3-2 goals against Karlsruher SC and were thus qualified for the competition of the European Cup Winners' Cup 1960/61 . The return leg in Glasgow brought about the memorable 8-0 defeat by Glasgow Rangers . In the last year of the football league, 1962/63, Albert Jansen experienced the work of the former Herne trainer Fritz Langner . It was true that the departure of international striker Albert Brülls to Italy was to be compensated for, but with Siegfried Burkhardt , Heinz Crawatzo , Heinz Lowin and the young home grown Herbert Lracht , several players moved up. Gladbach took eleventh place and had therefore not qualified for the new Bundesliga. Jansen played his last league game as a right defender on May 11, 1963 in a 4-4 draw at Westfalia Herne. From 1958 to 1963 he had played 121 league games and scored eight goals. For the 1963/64 season, the newly founded Bundesliga started with 16 clubs. Since 1. FC Köln, Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04, Meidericher SV and Preußen Münster were nominated from the west, Borussia Mönchengladbach belonged to the Regionalliga West from this round.

Regionalliga West, 1963 to 1965

Even in the first year of the Regionalliga, 1963/64 , coach Langner failed to lead the Bökelberg eleven into the top group. Albert Jansen and the newcomers Horst-Dieter Höttges , Egon Milder , Günter Netzer and Rudolf Pöggeler came in eighth after 38 rounds. Jansen only missed one game. He and Höttges formed the Borussia defensive pair in this round. In the last two round games - on May 3rd and 10th against Bielefeld and Siegen - coach Hennes Weisweiler - he was the head coach in Mönchengladbach from 1964/65 - the team from VfL 1900 Mönchengladbach. He was thus able to get to know his player material better and draw conclusions for the new round. Reinforced on the offensive by Jupp Heynckes , Bernd Rupp and Werner Waddey , Gladbach immediately moved to the top of the table with captain Albert Jansen and his teammates with a 10-0 point start in 1964/65 . With 27: 7 points, the autumn championship was celebrated one point ahead of Alemannia Aachen and the championship at the end of the round. Jansen had played 33 of 34 games. In the promotion round he played all six matches against Worms, Kiel and Reutlingen and was thus a guarantee for promotion to the Bundesliga. A total of 70 regional league games were recorded for Jansen from 1963 to 1965.

Bundesliga, 1965 to 1967

The Weisweiler team started in the Bundesliga with an away game at Borussia Neunkirchen . Captain Jansen formed the defender pair with newcomer Hans-Hubert Vogts and was expelled from the field in the 85th minute for repeated handball. The game ended 1-1. On the 32nd matchday, May 14, 1966, Jansen completed his 30th Bundesliga appearance. The Borussia played 3: 3 at TSV 1860 Munich ; Herbert L Bäumen distinguished himself as a triple goalscorer. In the second year of the Bundesliga, 1966/67, coach Weisweiler relied on goalkeeper Volker Danner , defenders Vogts and Heinz Wittmann and the runner row Heinz Lowin, Egon Milder and Gerhard Elfert in defense . Albert Jansen did not appear in the Bundesliga again and ended his career as a licensed footballer in the summer of 1967.
