Werner Waddey (born March 22, 1946 - † July 5, 2017 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German football player who, as a player for Borussia Mönchengladbach, was able to celebrate the championship in the West Regional Football League and promotion to the Bundesliga in 1965 .

career

The attacking player Werner Waddey, who came from 1. FC Viersen , was appointed to the German youth national team for three appearances in March 1964 as a youth player of 1. FC Mönchengladbach . In the Netherlands he played in the two group matches in the UEFA youth tournament alongside Hans-Hubert Vogts and Franz Beckenbauer in the games against Sweden and the Netherlands. The technically shod left-footed player accepted the offer from Borussia Mönchengladbach for the 1964/65 round and moved to the Regionalliga West.

Under the training direction of Hennes Weisweiler , the Bökelberg-Elf won the championship in the west and also prevailed in the promotion round to the Bundesliga. The 19-year-old talent played all 34 regional league games - only center forward Bernd Rupp came up with the same number - and was also used in all six games in the promotion round for Gladbach. The "foals" stormed into the Bundesliga with the attacking line-up Herbert Lektiven , Jupp Heynckes , Bernd Rupp, Günter Netzer and Waddey. In the first Bundesliga season 1965/66 Waddey completed 15 games. The newcomer Gerhard Elfert from Arminia Hannover became his athletic competitor in the left midfield or on the left wing. After Waddey's sporting development could no longer withstand the pace of other competition - Herbert Wimmer , Peter Dietrich , Klaus Ackermann - Waddey ended his career in the Bundesliga with Borussia Neunkirchen on April 6, 1968 . In three seasons he had completed 22 games.

From the round 1968/69 he played again in the Regionalliga West, first two rounds at Bonner SC , then another two years at Fortuna Cologne and Arminia Gütersloh . From 1968 to 1974, the former youth international player completed 168 regional league games and scored thirteen goals.
