Jürgen "Charlie" Schütz (born July 1, 1939 in Dortmund ; † March 19, 1995 ) was a German football player .

Career

After his time as a youth player at Urania Lütgendortmund "Charlie" contactor came before the start of season 1959/60 in the Oberliga West to Borussia Dortmund . As a technically very strong and dangerous center forward , he was the league's top scorer with 31 goals in his first season, and in 1960/61 (27 goals) and 1962/63 (25 goals) he was the most accurate scorer in the Oberliga West. He scored 100 goals in 114 top division matches, and also scored eleven goals in twelve finals - a dream rate in a truly not weak division. His strike partner during this time was Friedhelm Konietzka , with whom he got along brilliantly. "Charlie" Schütz and "Timo" Konietzka were also referred to as "Max and Moritz".

Between 1960 and 1963, Schütz played six international matches under national coach Sepp Herberger . In the national team he was also used as a half-right striker, alongside Uwe Seeler , whom he, like many other center strikers of the 1960s , was unable to displace from his regular place in the German national team .

After winning the German championship in 1963, Schütz moved from Dortmund to the Italian Serie A ; in addition to AS Roma , who signed him for DM 450,000 and temporarily loaned him to ACR Messina , AC Turin and Brescia Calcio were his stations south of the Alps. For the season 1968/69 Schütz returned to Germany and played first for TSV 1860 Munich and from 1969 again for Borussia Dortmund, now as an attacking midfielder . After BVB's relegation in 1972, Schütz moved to the Regionalliga West to Rot-Weiss Lüdenscheid , where he also ended his career.

After the career

After his active career, Schütz worked as an innkeeper, among other things. He died of throat cancer . In 2012, the Jürgen-Schütz-Strasse named after him was inaugurated in Dortmund-Brackel , near the BVB training center.
