Career

Schwarzbach came from Mülheimer Spielverein 07 to Fortuna Düsseldorf . At Fortuna, he first played with the amateurs before making his Bundesliga debut in the 1966/67 season . Under coach Kuno Klötzer he played eleven games. His debut with Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga was spectacular: The newly promoted Regionalliga West started with a 2-1 away win at the European Cup winner Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Schwarzbach guarded the Fortunen-Tor and together with Hans-Josef Hellingrath , Gert Wünsche , Horst Häfner , Werner Biskup and Werner Lungwitz formed the defensive of the Rhinelander, which the prominent BVB attack with Reinhard Libuda , Horst Trimhold , Sigfried Held , Wilhelm Sturm and Lothar Emmerich only scored one goal in front of 42,000 spectators. On matchday 34, June 3, 1967, he finished the round in 17th place in the table with a 1: 2 defeat at Hamburger SV. Uwe Seeler and Gert Dörfel were HSV's winning goal scorers in the 78th and 80th minutes respectively.

After relegation, Schwarzbach stayed with Fortuna Düsseldorf and took on the role of reservist behind the 1962 World Cup goalkeeper in Chile, Wolfgang Fahrian . He came to a regional league assignment in 1967/68 and accepted an offer from SC Fortuna Köln for the round in 1968/69 and signed in Cologne's Südstadt. At the club of president and patron Hans Löring , he made 19 appearances in his first season in the second-rate Regionalliga West. He made his debut on August 18, 1968 in a 2-0 home defeat against VfL Bochum at the side of teammates like Karl Lambertin , Friedhelm Otters and Karl-Heinz Struth . From 1969/70 Wolfgang Fahrian took over the regular goalkeeper post at Fortuna Cologne and Schwarzbach only made seven more regional league appearances in the next four rounds. In the year of the runner-up and promotion to the Bundesliga, 1972/73, he came to four missions in February / March 1973 under coach Martin Luppen . In the Bundesliga season 1973/74 he was a reservist without use and ended his higher-class active playing career in the summer of 1974.
